Heard that issue 5 has it that only America has been conquered, and America is making sure all the other countries stay out of it. Don't help us to defend ourselves or else..... Um... doesn't sound terribly realistic to me. In fact, given the US's tendency to be averse to casualties I would have expected them to be actively soliciting at the very least British assistance. Also, if America has been conquered that presumably means that its strategic deterrent is in Decepticon hands , and effective large-scale combat operations on CONUS are at an end. In that scenario surely US forces would be so busy falling back to Canada, Hawaii and Guam that they would welcome assistance. (Also, Canda has a land border with the new nation of Robotonia. So I would have thought they would have had their own views about the new regime). Karl

Why would the Decepticons only conquer America? Surely if they wanted to 'control the world' perhaps the likes of China with a higher population base might be an idea?
Luckily, FPG had no copies of #5 in to peruse. It's for the best, methinks.

Why would the Decepticons only conquer America? Because the bulk of IDW's readers live there. There's presumably a proper reason but the series has not told us so it can "build mystery". (Anyone else get the impression that McCarthy's trying very hard to be commercial?)

It's not all bad, but it comes really, really close. This issue gave us answers to a few questions that have bothered people in the last few months. Several people believe that the writer has failed to read the previous IDW stories. This may be true, but he's certainly read Marvel's G2 series and watched the TF Animated TV series. In addition I get the distinct impression that he's seen Tom Cruise in War of the Worlds and a few of the Die Hard movies. Jazz has been promoted to resident ninja, another member of the Witwicky clan has forgotten to shave and there's some emotional bits at the end that made me sleepy.

Jazz has been promoted to resident ninja, *sigh* Why, oh why do that? Given that Jazz's function was originally to be a senior Special Forces Operator you'd think that folk like "Hoot" in "Blackhawk Down" or some of Tom Clancy's characters would be a better model for Jazz. I'd actually agree with Ralph in some respects. China wouldn't be a bad target, if you were looking for a large native labour force. Alternatively, in terms of natural resources there would be some logic to annexing the Middle East. On the other hand, America is probably the most militarily capable nation on the planet - not with the largest number of troops under arms, but a solid second tier in terms of numbers and first tier in terms of technology - so I figure they had to take it out at some point, and perhaps it makes sense to do so whilst they still have the element of surprise. (That said, as space-going robots they have other methods of doing that than actually directly landing in America - having read my Heinlen I am aware of the effectiveness of standing on the moon and lobbing dirty great rocks.....) Karl Yeah! Why don't the 'Cons hasta-lasagne us from orbit! This was the best episode so far for me. I really enjoyed Jazz's characterisation, even though Prowl's not in command. Again loadsa space wasted. All that mushy stuff at the end taking up a whole page, coulda been told in a coupla boxes- if that! And interesting what Megatron's got hold of. Have we seen that item yet in IDW? Can't recall.

Fans of car-crash internet may enjoy the IDW board reaction thread on AHM#5. Round about page 20 it devolves into an unpleasant shouting match between a poster and IDW's editor in chief.

Hmmm, Mr Ryall seemed to be laying it on a little thick with some of his replies there, but maybe I'm guilty of taking sides with the other guy. I noticed the similarities with the OTFCC boards as well, and Mr Ryall is starting to sound unnervingly like Glen Hallitt.

Ho boy!
That was entertaining.
Now, don't get me wrong. Normally I frown upon discussion on here about other online forums, but since this is an "official" forum, then I shall be momentarily hypocritical.
What I will say is, that I can't believe the level of degeneration when an Editor (in chief!) resorts to deleting posts from readers. Now I'm not saying that's inherently bad as such, but it just shows how bad things have become over there!
On one hand IDW should be pleased, since their first 40+ issues of "Transformers" have been absorbed so affectionately into the fandom's hearts, but we're on, what, issue 5 of All Hail Megatron and the flak that came with issue 1 should have been put to rest by now. I think they were hoping the quality of AHM would surpass the bitter feelings about Revelations.
Just goes to show.

Thing's seem to have calmed down a bit in that particular thread now, although a few recent posts from Jack seem to suggest he has to have the last word.
The more I try to find something to like about AHM, the harder it becomes. The basic idea behind the story itself has some merit, it's just that it's been so poorly executed. I'm sure Mr McCarthy as a person is a really nice guy, but from this experience of his material to date I'm just not a fan of his writing.
Surely from the extreme negative reaction so far, IDW must realise something has to be done to either encourage him to make changes or bring in someone with more experience. It dosen't have to be Simon Furman, I think Chris Mowry could do a decent job as I quite enjoyed Reign Of Starscream. Even better, bring back Uncle Bob!

I was discussing this on email last night and if IDW don't want Simon steering the ship anymore they have a few writers they could turn to. I wouldn't be averse to seeing them give Chuck Dixon a shot. His Evolutions mini was good and I do enjoy his writing.

Also Nick Roche and Steve Moore - Spotlight Ramjet Moore, not the crossover Moore.

Sadly, I doubt we'll see anything new Transformers-wise from Uncle Bobby B. It seemed like IDW had to put a loaded gun (or cheque) to his head for that adaptation of the first Transformers film.
Chris Mowry, I'd like to see more of. Is he writing the new Alliance/Destiny prequel/sequel books? While I felt the plot of "Reign of Starscream" quite pedestrian, he wrote a few good slices of dialogue.

So going off the synopsis, very little happens in #5 AGAIN, there's a pointless bit of Autobots "proving themselves" for machismo, and an army group is ordered to take out Megatron while having no air support, heavy artillery or even being able to handle Ratbat.
Wheee.

If you want to read Dreamwave quality homaging of the Sunbow verse (albeit with much better artwork) it's for you.

It's not perfect but I'm definitely warming to it. With some faster pacing and a few more nods to the pre-established Furman continuity I think the series will only improve. Issue 5 was better than 4 and so on. I fear though that it may be too-little too-late for some folk.
