Nice front cover by Jon Davis-Hunt reminds me of Nick's cover a few issues ago. 11 pages of new action with better art by Gary Erskine compared to that cover.
Megatron origin #1 & BW series 2 #1
Grimlock profile.

Im quite happy with the new material as Ive not read either before. Im a little surprised by the Megatron comic as introducing another version of continuity seems a bit confusing, I thought they would stick to another movie title. All though Im not sure if there are any left to print, has the Starscream movie comic been released yet? I was expecting the UK material to try and tie back into the IDW movie tie ins and the next movie in the same way that marvel UK TF would do its own stuff then slide back into Marvel US. Maybe they still will but not for a little while by the looks of the current story. Assuming they do realign the UK verse to include the sequel I wonder if the comic adaptation will be released over here in some form, perhaps a summer special. Andy

Why Megatron Origin of all IDW stories? That has to be the worst strip that IDW has done recently. I only buy Titan's TF comic for the UK strip anyway but I also prefer something else at least half decent as a back-up strip.

It makes sense in that it requires no prior knowledge of IDW continuity and if you squint a bit could be the origin of movie Megs if you want it to be. The Infiltration, etc stuff would fit right after.
Or maybe the younger readers have been writing in about Megatron being a favourite character?

Hmm. My reasons for buying this are getting fewer and fewer it would seem. I'll stick with it for a while on the basis of the UK strip, but the choice of reprints means that I will be paying a high price per page for the actual content I will be reading...

I've been doing that since issue 1 because all I've ever read in each issue is the UK strip. The features don't appeal to me and the back-up strips I've already read.

Karl Assuming the first digest reprint (Transformers Adventures Volume 1) did OK, I imagine there will be more. Volume 1 had the first six strips for a fiver (or cheaper on-line). No free tat, sadly. EDIT: I see there is a Volume 2 www.amazon.co.uk/Transformers-Adventures-Vol-v-2/dp/184576837X/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1215946711&sr=1-2-Ralph

Andy But its new to me as is the BW strip so Im now getting a complete comic of new material as opposed to 6 pages an issue for the first 13. Crap new stuff is better than reprints of stuff I already own. I think I would have preferred Reign of Starscream, but maybe IDW wont let it run while its still being published state side. Andy

I've been thinking about dropping it - to save space as much as for any other reason. This may hasten my decision.
Has Meg's Origin been corrected and does it look any clearer in a larger format?
I suspect MO is being printed because it's only four issues long and the other IDW stories, and the potential DW ones for that matter, are all 6 issues (and I doubt Titan want to get into DW anyway), apart from HoS, which doesn't really fit anywhere and is, therefore, a very unlikely choice. I suspect they're waiting for RoS to finish, and then maybe move to one back up story.

It makes sense for the back-ups to be using 4-issue minis. Allows for all stories to be concluded round about the time the second movie comes out, allowing for a fresh 'jumping on point'. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if Titan reboot the comic with a fresh #1 at that point. They've done it several times for their Star Wars Comic and that seems to have worked out alright.

FPG had copies in earlier. Lead strip was great fun. The difference it makes when writers are given 11 pages instead of 6x22pages mini. Lots happens, nicely dense. Good.
Some other comic strips also featured.
Starscream was on fine form in the letters pages. The picture of the kid who had frozen his Megatron toy freaked me out. He is quite clearly insane. Plus he freezes his toys!

With starting the reprints from Megatron Origin - Titan seem to be printing IDW in event order, but would have been better in CE format - so this title would stick with Movie & BW. Expect to see some spotlights before we move on to series 1.

I enjoyed The Gathering a lot more when it was split up and reprinted than in the original mini - I'm optimistic the same thing will happen with Origin and Ascending. The seven pages of each this issue work quite well as Part Ones too, and Origin gets a rather ominous cliffhanger (Ascending... doesn't).
Also, wonderfully, the larger pages mean the Origin art is actually clear.
Love the original strip. All Hail '#1 definately comes off inferior compared to this - in 11 pages, we have mystery, Earth turning on the Transformers, the All Spark reborn, character moments, big explosions and an ominous cliffhanger. It's also nice to see the aftermath of one of those Big Devastation On Earth stories, especially in the long term. It's enjoyable stuff.

Indeed it is. I honestly think Furman is stronger the less pages he's given to play with.
The UK strip, other than #7, has been big bold OTT fun so far, and since it settled down to an ongoing story from #9 onwards it's become much stronger. The novelty of buying the mag just because it's a UK TF comic has long since faded. I buy it because I enjoy it. Put it this way: I'd dropped Panini Armada by #3 and have no issues in my collection. Never had the urge to recollect them either.
My only complaint with the UK strip is that it would be nice to have the same artist two issues in a row.

But then we'd not get to see Elita-One change her head every issue!
I think it's clear that Furman should be forced back into an Earthforce format - for the kids!

It just occured to me that the Starscream-bombs-Providence scene is basically the same thing as the attack in All Hail Megatron, the Decepticons causing cool explosions and trying to intimidate humanity...
...except it's just the ONE PAGE here and still works.

I like it when he tells the letter writers that they're going to be murdered for liking the good guys.
EDIT: Also, I'd love it if the characters started using the FREE! Robot Blasters and similar weapons in the same issue they were given away with!
