Here's an interesting concept. Ask a question you know you can't answer and hope that someone else can answer it for you.
I'll start off: What sound do hedgehogs make?

They sort of snuffle.

Yes, they do. What is the lifespan of a dolphin? -Ralph

Depends on the species but possibly 40-45 years for some.

Dolphin's last as long as they want, and can get on aeroplanes without showing identification to anybody

I thought they all left Earth when they discovered the Vogons were about to blow it up.

But surely a dolphin gun is no good for hunting dolphins? After all, you probably can't kill dolphins by shooting dolphins at them.....

How do holograms work? I'm a scientist, but they still seem magical to me.

They work through some special magical powers that are channelled from the very core of the universe - I think!

I saw a programme on how holograms are made last year, but unfortunately I was doing something else at the time and can't remember any of it!

Winston Zeddmore - WHY? WHAT IS THE POINT OF HIS CHARACTER IN THE FILM?
Thank you.

He was the token black guy in the film. The producers couldn't be seen to be racist could they!

Winston Zeddmore - WHY? WHAT IS THE POINT OF HIS CHARACTER IN THE FILM? Thank you. Martin He is the 'everyman' working Joe type character who just wants a job and is not a scientist, so provides a nice contrast to the other Ghostbusters and helps with the joke of it being just a bog-standard business which just happens to be ghost hunting. Well, that's my interpretation anyway. -Ralph

Really enjoyed watching GB again on Fiver yesterday, but was just left with this overwhelming urge to yell 'WHY?' at the screen when it ended with four Ghost Busters rather than the three that were built up from the start. Thought I'd yell it here instead.
Ralph's point did occur to me, but Winston fails to work for me as an 'everyman' character because we are told nothing whatsoever about him. For him to be the normal guy I'd want to be shown that he had a normal life first (e.g. see him with his family at the breakfast table scanning the job ads). I was just left wondering whether (a) his inclusion in the film was an afterthought, (b) he was intended to have some character background and development but it all got cut out for length/pacing reasons, or (c) his role was always intended to be no more and no less than it was in the final cut.
For a film that builds up such a brilliant core hero trio, with brilliant supporting performances from Sigourney Weaver, Rick Moranis and William Atherton, I'm afraid poor Winston sticks out like a sore thumb.
Thanks for your theories!
Martin

I think he plays a bigger role in the original cartoon series than in the films.

I think they wanted Eddie Murphy originally, maybe the role was reduced when he didn't do it.

Ah, Winston Zeddmore (cool surname!). I always wondered why he was ommitted from the early GB Video Games, but I put it down to limitations of tech and cart space.
I vaguely remember reading somewhere (in Cereal Geek I think) about his often depiction behind the wheel of Ecto-1 and portrayed as 'the driver'. It was some article about Michael Stachynski (cant spell his name). Someone help me here.
I agree that his 'Everyman' personna could have been shown a lot more. He as the latecomer could have complimented the 3 as a more get and up go, rough and ready personna. I can buy into Winston running around with a proton pack in the thick of action than I can say Egon or Ray.

I love GhostBusters. It's prob my favorite film of all time.
The 'Zeddamore Question' (I agree cool surname!) has never occured to me to be honest. But it is a very good question. A very good question indeed.
I don't have any answers or theories on the matter, but I do think it is a good question.
