Above all others, what is the one Transformer you don't have that you really, really want?
Mine has to be G1 Overlord. He's simply gorgeous looking and has TWO powermasters!!!

Ah, Overlord. £29.99 from Toys R Us in Peterborough in 1991. Still in near mint condition aside from a bit of friction fading on some of the stickers. Those were the days!
As for my own "holy grail"... I don't think I have one.
Up until last year it was Trypticon but he's now sat on the shelf staring with contempt at Metroplex.

For the longest time it was Fractyl and Packrat and before them Jetfire. Now?
I dont think I have one anymore. Thats a bit sad. Right now the closest thing is the final member of the Rescue Force, the jeep/beach buggy/racer one which I to this day still havent seen in person.

Titanium Prowl is high up there, have I mentioned I'm quite eager to own one of these?
After him my holy grails don't exist. Masterpiece Soundwave (with 4 cassets) and Shockwave. Both same size as Op and Megatron. And a classics Jazz is much required. I'd also love an Ultra sized version of Infiltration Megatron, I think this is one of the best ever versions of Megs. Oh and voyager sized, classics style Seekers. All 6. Oh and Ultra and voyager sized Classics Dinobots (yeah that old chestnut). Maybe an armour classics Ultra Magnus as well. And I'd have LOVED a titanium Jazz, Wheeljack and Shockwave -heh, don't want much do I?
Out of figs that do exist, completing G1 Predaking is top of the list. Needing Tantrum and all the Predaking parts (head, hands, feet). Masterpeice Skywarp and Thundercracker. And Classics Thundercracker.
Think that's 'bout it...

Black Zarak without any flaking gold paint would be many TF collectors Holy Grail.

An original Shockwave, which is unlikely as it goes for silly money and isn't likely to be reissued. Harumph.

Shockwave will be reissued within the next six months- mark my words As for the holy grail... really hard to say. In a sense - the TF that I'm usually "just about to get" is my holy grail - because I try to get only TFs that I'm really really keen on...it's just that that usually ends up meaning all of them Also- it's hard to consider things that I HAD ONCE a Holy Grail... Overlord? Had him. Traded for Scorponok. Fortress Maximus? Had him. Sold back to hobby shot I bought him at because I needed to eat after all. And on it goes... Lots of TFs I've had go thru me hands... hmm... But I guess at this point I'd say - Victory Saber set MISB? Would love to get it - and have often been just a click away from doing so on many an occasion. But I guess I'm hoping for a reissue eventually. dyrl

Thanks to Yahoo Japan (before all the dealers found out about it- now anything Japan-exclusive from 1985-93 goes for mad money as proxy services battle each other) I've filled in most of the really groovy figures I've been after for years. That said, I do want those Japanese combining cassettes, and by that I mean I want them to be reissued. Even if I won the lottery twice I would never pay 400 quid for a cassette.

Thunderwing. I like the Pretenders, even the crappy ones, and I like the character, but current prices on ebay for this fella are way above what I'd want to pay.

I would not say no to a reissue.
I have had an urge recently to pick up more Pretenders as I cannot stop playing with Skullgrin.

My one qualm with Pretenders is the first series of Autobot Pretenders. The "human" fellows - I hate them with a burning passion akin to the one Ralph features for Longtooth.
I mean - the one and only time that they fit in somewhere was when Landmine and Cloudy went to that planet full of Women and the Central Space station - they were a ok then...
But I can't stand them on earth - giant, fifty foot humans in ugly non-descript exo-suits just plumbing around... eee...
Classics Pretenders were a step up - I am talking about aesthetic design here: I liked each of their "armor suits."
The Decepticon Pretenders were always sweet - from the first ones to the Bludgeon an Octopunch moulds...
Just those first Autobot Pretenders - like Rejects from a casting audition for He-Man or Visionaries...
But yeah - it would be interesting if they reissued a Pretender...although...they'd have to bling it up somehow...

In the cartoons they were portrayed much better, as they could change size and disguise themselves as normal humans Yeah - I was aware of this, and I like that about the cartoon... but the problem is that in the cartoon they wore suits and stuff - that's cool. If they made Pretenders that looked like Ken and Barbie and split open to reveal robots that Transform - and the dolls have clothes that you could change them into and armor - that would be great. But the toys are totally unhuman. Also - remember that the toys have only HALF the human head jutting out of them. You take their helments off - and you've got this half-head mold staring at you. Terrible. Pete

They are the kind of toys that as one of the then-target market, ie children, I thought they were shit. I had Waverider and Catilla and thought they were mince: the shells couldn't do anything and the robots were rubbish compared to the other TF's I had. They were unloved and Galvatron shot them many times.
But they are the kind of toys I like as an adult, strangely. I can admire the attempt to try something different even though the execution was bobbins. I dunno, I just like them now. Also: the Masterforce cartoon has given the toys a lot of extra character they lacked before!

Well - I was always more tolerant of the beast sculpt Pretenders - Catilla and Chainclaw (right?) included...
Although it annoyed me beyond words that the shells were just fixed posed molds.
I mean - it seemed retrograde to have, say, some one like G1 Optimus Prime who could bend his knees and had fully articulated arms, or G1 Prowl who had articulated arms and then suddenly these...things..
The only Pretenders I think would be worthy of a Reissue are the Dinoking set.
This is because the stubby shells and bare-bones little robots redeam themselves by combining in to a gestalt.
Ergo - reissue Dinoking!

First out the box would probably be Metal Hawk. He's he Convoy character till Ginrai shows up. Look at the chest desing and the colours ! Shame he is rather unimpressive as a toy though. The shell is on the border of acceptable (and bear in mind that I'm not a big fan of pretenders anyway, so that is fairly high praise) but the inner transformer. The humanoid mode I feel is so-so, but the fighter mode is.... words fail me. Karl (Not that I'd be all that interested in a re-issue of pretenders in general. I love them in "Chojin Masterforce" but can very much live without them as toys)

Fort Max in my attic. Has not been opened since the TMUK 97 Quasar meeting. That's going on for about 11 years.
Andy, I think I may have a spare Rescue Force 'buggy' / Jargua repaint.
As for the Holy Grail I don't have yet, I'd say Masterpeice Megatron, Monstructor, Overlord or Deszaras.

Talking of Metalhawk, I noticed this fan made model kit on yahoo japan auction, which was rather nice. I would like to see an updated version on the Pretender theme, this time with poseable shells and the like.
