Thank the heavens above that rhyming week is now dead and buried. Phew, all that poetry takes it out of you.
I just wanted to proclaim that it was gone as soon as possible.

I already miss rhyming week a little just not the participating part.
Penultimate week at work begins today. Late evening finishes to avoid working over easter are taking there toll. I slept most of yesterday, my only day off last week, well aside from being sick on Monday.

What is it you can't stand, Phil? Rhyming in principle, or the poor rhyming as done by us?
To be fair, as silly fun goes it doesn't cost a penny, unlike toys/comics/DVDs/beer/bowling etc.
However, I hereby resolve not to be the first one to mention it next year.

Well, I've gone and done it. I've rung up TalkTalk and told them they can supply me with Broadband if they really want to. (They wrote especially to tell me it would be their special pleasure to do so, you know.)
I felt a bit foolish having TalkTalk calls and line rental, and a dial-up package with BT that costs more than Broadband with TalkTalk would cost. So sod it, TalkTalk can send me a new modem, I'll pay the one-off £29.99 fee, and within 4-5 months I should recoup that in savings from the cheaper monthly payments.
Fingers crossed that it works, and that MechQuest banner ad loading waits will soon be a thing of the past.

That's pretty much the logic that got me Broadband Martin. I worked out that it would be cheaper than the dial-up deal that I was on, and in my case I felt it would be likely to be more reliable (and it has so proven). The convenience factor is quite nice - especially as I do a lot of booking my train tickets on-line these days and some of those sites are far from 56.6K friendly.
Now if I could just persuade myself that I wanted to go all wireless so I could shift my laptop a bit further away from the window and the Dragon Tree. Although come to think of it, it would probably be easier to try and find a new home for the Dragon Tree.........

I refuse to go wirless until the networks become much more secure. With this laptop I am using, I could access 3 nearby wireless networks just by pressing a button. I won't, of course, but that I could, worries me.
I did try to access the Uni's wireless network once. I got 18 unauthorised access alerts within 90 seconds of switching it on. Never again!
I'll stick with being chained to the wall for now.

The main benefit of broadband for me has been TV-on-demand via the yarrrrrrrrrr channel.
And now the BBC have finally got their iplayer working, I never watch any programmes on the television set now.

I refuse to go wirless until the networks become much more secure. With this laptop I am using, I could access 3 nearby wireless networks just by pressing a button. I won't, of course, but that I could, worries me. That's more because folk don't bother to actually enable any encryption on their wireless router. All of them support at least one encrypt protocol - a lot of them support both, but a lot of people never bother turning it on. The chances of me going wireless in the next couple of years are vanishingly small. I am by tradition and habit usually a generation or so behind any given technology curve, so the likelihod of me giving up my current kludge for a swish high-tech solution is vanishingly small. Iplayer is something I shall be experimenting with in the next couple of days. If it work out for me I can see myself ending up in much the same position. Karl |

You've scored a bargain there. Three of the best Spotlights by far.
My mac can pick up one of my neighbours wireless networks, but they have a password on it so I can't steal their connection.
Will probably upgrade to wireless in the next year when the desktop is replaced but until then the USB modem will do fine.

Couple of clicks and you're prevented from doing so and need a password to get on. If the former - well the network does need to be there for you to be able to pick it up so .... You may remember a previous thread about viri getting onto university machines via usb devices. |

Six weeks isn't bad. We're still waiting to hear back on how our presentations went down in January. It would have helped to get feedback before our final presentations at least, which were last week.

Had a very pleasant day today (being off work over Easter). Lunchtime lecture at the museum on the Mabinogion - in Welsh, with headphones for the simultaneous translation - gotta respect that translator dude. Had a bottle of Corona and a bit of a read in the Cineworld bar before catching 'The Bank Job', which was pretty good, before wandering back over to the museum for an evening lecture on 'The God Particle' given by Prof. Jim Al-Khalili. Then back home in time for tea and two Torchwoods!

I'm in for a stand-alone day shift that I couldn't book off, and then I got me 6 days off! Hurragh! Six whole days of squeezing Piglet, squeezing Mrs Shockprowl and, er, doing blasted D.I. smegging Y. Oh well, gotta be done.
Magmatron not arrived as yet, but he's not overdue or anything. Can't wait for him to arrive! I've also got Guiledart and Transquitto on the way also, loose ones from BBTS.

Mrs Shockprowl wasn't too happy 'bout Magmatron, but she's forgiven me. Gotta ease off the spending though for a bit. Waaaaay over budget! Any trades greatly appreciated chaps! Excited 'bout an impending trade with Mr Stranger for Robot Masters TC and SW. You know me and Seekers! Need Starscream now and I'll have my second complete original Seeker trio! Nipped into ToysRus in York the other day, to grab a reissue Skywarp. They had LOOOOADS there the month before. None! Where'd they go! Anyway, gotta stop spending so much on TFs. Lotsa things we want. Dishwasher broke over a month ago. If you've ever had a dishwasher, then loose it, you'll understand what a terrible terrible thing it is. Says alot 'bout our throw away society when it'd cost more to fix the old one that it would to buy a whole new machine! Also gunna have to replace the kitchen work surface. I didn't realise a plastic plate was close to the hob then I was using it, and it set on fire and has damaged the work surface! Yes, I am that stupid. Don't call an Ambulance in North Yorkshire!!!!!

I can explain about the Skywarp. All the reissues were reduced to a tenner before Christmas, and as of the end of last week there's a "buy one get one half price" offer on all TF toys. It's actually one of the poorer deals (in Dr Who you get a £30 playset free when you buy £25 worth of stuff) but a promotion is a promotion. We're moving frankly shocking amounts of stuff right now, presumably to make room for all the new lines starting in April. What we really need to do is get rid of all our Pirates of the Caribbean and Harry Potter stuff. Almost all the HP toys are half price. Figures are only £1.99 now, and we still can't bloody shift them!
EDIT: Golden Compass could do with a kick up the arse too. Like a less successful Harry Potter, it sold okay while the film was in cinemas but as soon as it was out of the public eye the toy line just dropped dead. I think we've sold maybe two figures this week. Still two more than Pirates right enough.

The Trifle fell out - thankfully not ejecting too much onto the floor when it was hit by the case of Yogurt that fell out of it. I meanwhile hurt quite a bit now. Bit wobbly today for some reason.
