OK, I am battling stomach pains, have lost a lot of sleep, got two massive uni assignments due next week and people needing me for this and that. Don¡¦t get me know about the last one, I like helping people and just wish I was in a better mental and physical state to do so. The main course of worry for me right now is that Zip is missing. For those who don¡¦t know Zip is one my rescue cats I adopted last year along with his sister Star. He¡¦s also the cat I nearly named Ravage. ƒº Zip was yesterday in pain from something, perhaps a fight with one of the big cats over the fence, perhaps someone kicked him, or he took a nasty fall. Either way Zip would not let anyone near him and spent a portion of yesterday sheltered away making growling noises and being grumpy. Zip took off in the middle of the day when I brought him some food which he did take a couple of bites of but then went through the cat flap. Zip has not returned and given that he¡¦s hurt I can only think of the worst. Sure panicking will not help but delaying action to find him won¡¦t help either, such a double edged sword when worrying about a loved pet and family member. The council have been contacted as well as the local pet authorities. All that can be done now is just sit and wait until either Zip finds his way home or the phone rings to confirm whether Zip is found alive or dead. I really want Zip to come home, especially with Halloween around the corner I can only imagine how lost and frightened he may be and how tomorrow nights bonanza will likely make things even worse. Zip is a confident and adventurous animal but he¡¦s one black cat who doesn¡¦t fit in with the spooky scene. I don¡¦t what I would do if I lost Zip. I know I¡¦d be devastated, angry and hurt, but I will say that Zip has had an amazing life and should have more of an amazing life to come. Zip has been a spoiled and loved animal adored by friends and family alike and he¡¦s one kitty who deserves a long 9 lives of this. I don¡¦t want to think of the worst but I have to prepare for it too, if that makes any sense. I¡¦ve never lost a pet before and for me given that Zip is only over a year old is very untimely although animals die all the time. Zip to me is more than just an animal, he¡¦s a personality, a unique cat with the loyal traits of a puppy-dog whos warm playful and cheerful and I love him to bits. I just want Zip to come home¡K

Praying for Zip.
But though it's harsh, I'm afraid the possibility of a cat never coming home, and you never finding out what happened to it, is something all cat owners must live with. They're my favourite pet because they're the only animal intelligent enough for us to allow them to go out on their own when they feel like it. But there is this emotional downside to the arrangement.
I hope Zip returns soon, and if not, that you can take comfort in the happy year of life that you gave him (and he gave you in return).

This afternoon I caught a glimpse of Zip in the hedge at the end of the garden. I went out to call him back in and he turned away.
I am happy that he's alive anyway. I just hope he comes home and isn't being fed by anyone.

He came home last night. Not good news I am afraid. Zip has been examined and checked over. Not good at all. It would appear that someone has kicked him and that the impact has screwed his back up and he has lost movement in his tail. Not only this, he's not eating much and his bladder and colon are empty. I was'nt at the vet as I was at a mandatory production meeting at Uni, so I am really gutted. Mrs Hero and I have been given medicine and tablets Zip must consume with his food and water (which he's currentley turning his nose up at). I am going to have to do my best to make sure he takes it. If Zip does not progress in healing up, the vets will have to amputate his tail or... possibly put him to sleep. next check up is either on Sunday or Monday. Early I know ===HERO

There isn't a definite knowing that Zip was kicked but the Vet who checked Zip guessed that someone harmed him. Since the guy is trainined and has looked over many animals I would take his word for it.
If I find out: - that is the case, - whoever did it (since I live in small town and neighbourhood) - and the worst happens with Zip...
... I would feel in a justified position to avenge my beloved pet and I would be willing to do some jail time if it meant making that person pay.
This isn't really a case scenario I want to think of. What matters now is that Zip is home and being taken care of. The medication starts today.
As I went downstairs this morning Zip was wandering about the kitchen with his sister and started making his cooing sound at me to give him some food. The little guy has got his appetite back and that is progress. He could be happy because of the painkiller he was injected with yesterday but that would have probably started wearing off right now. I think the other sign of progress is that Zip is doing his best to act normal despite the hurt he's had.

Some people are just scum. It's good that he's eating and trying to act normal. Hopefully the next visit to the vets will bring good news.

Vengeance is never an solution to anything Ken, but I understand how you are feeling. A pet gives people so much enjoyment that they feel that they must pay back that kind of gratitude when something happens to them.

You'd do better to get the RSPCA to prosecute them and have them do the jail time (or more realistically pay a fine and be banned from owning pets themselves). Martin

Zip is now peeing again, but were not getting a number two out of him. Not sure what will happen next if he cant go to the toilet, I hope there's some sort of Cat laxative that will help unclog him as he can't just stay like that.

The Zip saga continues...
I spent today with Zip regularly checking on him, and praying over him. I had worries that he was clogged up inside as he appeared to have trouble doing his business.
In the end after a lenghthy battle within the littertray, Zip finally releived himself. On top of this he's moving his tail a little more. Things are better on this long road to recovery.
