Ever youthful! Bobbins! I'm old enough now to be my own father! We're all old.
Old old old.
Unless you're still in your teens watching Doctor Who for the first time.
Which I'm not. Last time I did that, Sylvester was the Doctor.

It was when I realised we are fast approaching 40 years of the 5th Doctor I realised the sands of time were swallowing me up. How can Davison almost be in his 20's??

Doing my weekly accounts I noticed Amazon have charged for the Season 8 BR set. Checked my orders on the site - says dispatched today. No email to say so, but the tracking says it's on the way.

Fabulous.
I know you could criticise this for the awkwardness of Nyssa 'wasn't going to be a a companion but is now' being shoehorned into the story, and the way Tegan spends most of the episode running round "like a hamster in a cage", but the portent here is so ominous and the Doctor so resigned it's just chilling to watch. Doesn't help that at an episode a week it also brings back those memories of the time of feeling like it really was the end.
I haven't watched Mind of Evil on the Pertwee run because I was waiting for the BR set and will catch up there and watch Terror again, so next week I'll kick in with Axos in Howard Donald.

Phew. Pre-sold out weeks ago at Amazon and HMV. Folk on FB a tad annoyed to be advertised a product they just found about due to said advertising but can't buy. Madness.

It's odd watching these two episodes together. The clarity of the video images on Axos is better than Logopolis. They're so clear it's hard to think they're upscaled. Some of that has to be the quality of the actual cameras used as well as the restoration. I suppose in 71 they were still quite new.
Axos VHS release, DVD, SE DVD, BR... Each release using improved restoration techniques. It's great to see it looking like this, helped by ep 1 being 625 Pal still, but watching the credits it started to feel to me like it's too much. Film element remastered from the original, captions remade with modern computers. Is it too much? Some of the charm in watching a classic series is lost. Gave me some pangs for the long gone VHS.
Logopolis 3 is the most Bidmeady of the four. Lots of wordy explanations poorly disguised by having the characters walk all over the place for ten minutes.

I always enjoyed 60's DW more in net curtain VHS vision. The void in THE MIND ROBBER looked like a void. Now you can see the walls.
