I think one of them may be the site of Forbidden Planet International - which I think runs the stores in Scotland, New York, Dublin etc. Whilst the other one is the website of the company that runs the stores in England and Wales. (I could be in error, but I think that is what it is). Karl

That's probably it. The Scottish outfit is seperate from the FP that trades in the rest of the UK.

My favourite bit in Ark volume 2 is the unused designs for Headmaster heads. Some very different stuff there.

I wished I'd bought two copies now as I feel like guillotining the spine off and scanning in the Micromaster artwork to colour in for AtoZs!

I managed to scan one or two images out of the book with an intent on colouring them in only to discover that I'm bloody hopeless at the pastime.

The only thing wrong with this book is that Sheep Commander is not called Sheep Commander! Heresy!
*plays with Sheep Commander figure*

Now that I've had a chance to have a good peruse of this book I have to say that I like it even more than I did the first volume.
The presentation is very good - minimal text, and kept out of the way of the art which is presented as clearly as an be managed. Exactly what I am looking for an art book to do.
There are some fascinating pieces here - great to see the "Masterforce" character models especially. The unused Headmaster heads are intriquing and it is nice to have good clear versions of the Super- and Ultra- Megatron designs to hand.
I liked the forward as well - a lot of what Hydra said in there brought back half-fond memories of a certain era on Alt.Toys.Transformers.
A superb book, and well worth the asking price I'd say.

I too agree it's better than volume 1. I would say that for me this is because the era volume 2 covers offers more possibility for variety of character models. Allows for fresher visuals than could be offered in volume 1. Which is not a slight on that particular book. Simply that the US Sunbow shows (which that book concentrated on) had a more unified look to it. In this, you can see clear differences between the models used for Masterforce as opposed to Victory, and so on.

The book is a masterpiece and one of the better TF books to ever hit the shelves. The illustrations are also clear enough for anybody with good illustration skills (of which I am not) to use as a base for fan comics.

While I absolutely adored this book there were a couple of what I think are errors. For example: the animation sheet for Drillhorn appears to have been 'fixed' incorrectly as there is no rhino horn on his head - whereas some of the model sheets I have from the original Victory Encyclopedia show a slightly different head that appeared in the cartoon. / Wasn't Hydra listed as an assassin rather than an actor? Or is that another miss conception?

Other 'missing' items include the original designs for the headmasters taken from the same origin that the Duocon pictures are from.
The alternate Headmaster designs were published in an issue of Auto-Update so next time I visit my parents' house I'll see if I can have a look if they are around.

If you find these other designs, contact the book compilers. They could be used for volume 3.

They're MUCH MUCH more elaborate than the ones that made it into the show. Depends if the old issues of that zine are still there. If I find them I will post them here too.

At last, I got Volume 1 yesterday. I cancelled my orders with WHSmith and Forbidden Planet as it became clear that they didn't and wouldn't have the stock despite what they had said. In the end I got Volume 1 from here: www.abebooks.co.uk/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=1194208735&searchurl=bt.x%3D0%26bt.y%3D0%26kn%3DTransformers%2BThe%2BArk%26sortby%3D3%26sts%3Dt I had to pay £84 for Volume 1 but for anyone who is interested in getting this book, I would act quick as there are only 5 left as opposed to the 13 that were available 3 weeks ago when I ordered my copy. Looking at the book, it seems to me that the alt modes of Bluur and Arcee are based on the same design all be it that maybe Arcee is the Earth version where as Bluur is the Cybertron version. I would have hated to have been the one who drew all those perspective insignias. |<o>|

Ooo, I had never clocked the similarity between the Arcee and Blurr designs before. I'll have to dig my copy out and have a look.
