Ah these lists are always bollocks and designed to get a reaction, also quite poorly researched given the fact they focused on tv/film thus missing out on many. Had they done none of the comedic turns would have gotten a look in.

Ridiculously biased towards the current BBC series, which will never stand the test of time.
Jeremy Brett performed the character created by Doyle in the stories written by Doyle in the era Doyle set his stories to perfection without the need for any gimmicks. He is Sherlock Holmes, and I'm sure Doyle would recognise him as such.

There was no statement of it being an official Sherlock poll They should have put Basil The Great Mouse Detective in there too I had no idea Tom Baker played the character. IIRC he dressed all Sherlock like in the Talons of Weng Chiang? I'd have had Jeremy Brett at no.1 also. BBC Sherlock IMO is not authentic Sherlock Holmes to me. more or less a homage series set in present day.

That very production is coming to an Edinburger in a couple of weeks. If any affordable tickets remain come payday I plan to see it. Not been to the theatre in an age!
Strangely, while I do not care for Christie's prose style, I often enjoy adaptations of her work.

I like Monk and Psych, myself. Not really into police or detective shows, but those two click with me.

(I may have remarked on this previously: forgive me if I have)
Watching Tonight's Endeavour on ITV 3: Prey
When one character yells "It's in the trees" and straight away another yells "it's coming" I loose it completely laughing!

Heh heh. I, of course, would likely start either humming the song, or tapping it out on the arm of my chair.
But them, I did once have someone say of a work colleague "she gotta dance" and without thought answer "And she can't stop till the shoes come off"...
