I listen to the Simon Mayo & Mark Kermode movie podcast from 5 live. Kermode was pretty scathing about Watchmen as well.

I still havn't seen it, I am a bad person No more than I. Given the running time I am only likely to see it at a weekend, and the nearest decent cinemas to me are in Edinburgh or Glasgow, which makes it a bit of an expedition. I'm still evaluating whether I feel it is worth the effort, or whether I may as well wait and see it as a rental in due course. Karl

I've seen it!
And GOD my ass is numb!
It didn't help that the cinema started it 20 mins late. But despite the too-long running time it was really good and I was genuinely impressed. Oddly for such a long film the ending did seem a bit rushed.
Personally I'd have preferred a snappier 2 hour edit with a bit less violence to make it more a 15 since a lot of the violence seemed a bit gratuitous. But maybe I am odd that way.

I do agree there was no need for it to be made for an 18 cert. Some restraint with gore/violence would still have told the story fine.

Which, despite the rantings of fanboys, is no more 'violent' than other Who stories then or now.

Well it does show blood, which I thought U films shouldn't be able to. But then again it seems the ratings have been getting far more liberal recently. Christ, look at the Dark Knight.
That said, they really could have done without Dr Manhatten's disintigration attack resulting in BUCKETS OF GORE.

Well I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was pleasantly surprised that it stayed so faithful to the book for the most part. Some of the visual handholding was annoying though - it was much less obvious in the book that Veidt was the bad guy but he might as well had a sign above his head in the film. Also when Rorschach comes out of the toilet in the prison, I could have done without the pan back to the blood seeping from under the door. I mean we know what went on in there. Other than those few moments only the changed ending really disappointed, and not by much. I can see why they didn't bother with the fake alient invasion It had been foreshadowed quite heavily in the book so when the moment comes it really ties together two separate strands of the plot (oh so that was what all that was about!). Without the foreshadowing it would have jarred horribly in the film, so pinning the explosion on Dr Manhatten was the least worst way of changing the ending. I just don't quite believe that it would bring about world peace that way given his indistructability.

Not heard anything but there might be a few ads pop up in the weekend papers.
Not seen any major deals online yet either. Amazon have it for £15.68 (2-disc) or £11.88 (1-disc). Also there will apparently be a five disc release in December that incudes an extended cut - well according to Wikipedia anyway.

I suspect I'll be able to do much better than that on Monday. Morrisons and Tescos are usually good bets
