Bad news guys! www.tfwiki.net has exploded! Apparently the guy hosting the wiki decided to do everyone a 'favour' by 'upgrading' the software without asking or telling anyone who runs it. And he didn't make a backup / made a corrupt backup And then it all corrupted and crashed. So uh. Crap. There's an effort going down to rescue what can be rescued from google's caches, but at best that will be a month old.

I don't know the site, but that sounds terrible. To be honest though, I don't know why people let that sort of thing happen, and I always scratch my head when people say their computer has died and they've lost all their files. I have never typed anything worth keeping, personal or work-related, that I haven't immediately stored in two different media. I do it compulsively. (My entries uploaded to the Underbase are all backed up on multiple CDs, since I know that no website or hard drive lasts forever.)

I've only visited it about two or three times but whenever I did I found it very informative. It's a shame that something like that could happen.

I hope you get it patched up, good as new, soon.
I wandered into the thread about it on the IDW boards, then wished I'd hadn't.

There will be bitching about the wiki because of who runs it (David Willis) as he's made more than a few online enemies in his time, both justified and not. There will be bitching about how the older tfwiki was better and there will be bitching just for the hell of it.

Ouch. I've only recently discovered the site, but have found it interesting, informative and entertaining. What a shame.

Someone is moaning that one of their friend's edit about how Hardhead was gay got deleted. I mean HOW ELITIST!
Unfortunately most of my contributions were image related (including every UK comic cover!) and it is a bit iffy if all the images can be recovered.
Luckily I have a cache of my Quickswitch page with every single Quickswitch apperance (including how he wins the war in the Ladybird books!)

It's always funny when people rant about how shit free websites that they don't have to visit are.

Ah, if only we could rule the world in our armchairs!

You see this mentality a lot in youtube video comments, sometimes downright abusive. If I've watched something someone has done on youtube and it isn't my cup of tea I just don't comment or rate and move on. It's just nasty to slag off something someone has done for fun that hasn't cost you a penny nor much time.

Oh, incidentally, could we make one of the "creative" forums to encompass "fansites"? Maybe bung it in with "fanzines" or sommut?

TF Wiki has always been a funny, informative site - I'm sorry to see they're having some problems. I use them a lot for character references and to have a wee chuckle.

wow....people are really pricky. They've also noticed that there are two bombshells in the comics?? I've never noticed or been that bothered but they are....damn they are.
It should be shut down, certian people shouldn't talk to eachother.

At the risk of getting off-topic it has always been said that casual continuity shouldn't get in the way of a good story, but it seems ludicrous that in Spotlight Blaster the entire plot revolved around Bombshell (in the distant past) cerebro-shelling someone, and yet not even a dozen issues later, Bombshell is explicitly built in the present for the first time. Which if it were a reboot I'd be cool with, but its not.
Little thing can slip sure, but thats a bit of a strange mistake to make

Well the tfwiki.net was born from the old TF Wiki on Wikia. Willis left that up and running when he took the content private. Although things quickly changed (removal of derogatory comments about Pat Lee for example) surely a lot of the content is still up?

Yes BUT all that stuff is 9 months old What has happened now is that all the cache details from google dating from March 9th has been uploaded and needs clearning, though someone is coordinating that so I am holding fire on it for the moment.

Looking at the Damage Control page, it seems that almost all the pages have been recovered from Google cache. It'll take some time sorting out but I guess it could have been worse.
