Looks good, let's just hope that it ain't Shane McCarthy writing it.

It *may* be a variant for all All Hail Megatron issue... there is a silhouette of Jazz and what might be Razorclaw on one of the "propaganda" type covers.

I get the impression that it's for something other than AHM. I hope it is a spotlight. Not because I particularly want to see a Jazz spotlight, but because I'm worried the Spotlights seem to be coming to an end.

There's no indication Spotlights are ending. Bother Furman and McCarthy have mentioned working on new ones on their blogs. Spotlight: Blurr came out this week. There was a solicit for Spotlight: Cosmos.

Should certainly be an interesting combination of characters either way. Jazz and Razorclaw are certainly not a pairing that jumps to mind straight away.

spotlight cosmos would be so cute, on how he would have to leave mrs cosmos and cosmos junior (who look like him) and travel round helping the autobots but when he is in space, all by himself, he would then remember his family....it would be so sad, cute but so so sad!
WOOOOOOOOOOOO Jazz, love his visor man

Confirmed on the IDW boards as Spotlight: Jazz.
No word on who the writer will be though...

Well if it's Su's art then fingers crossed it'll be Furman's writing, so they can hype it up as "reuniting the team that brought you Infiltration" to keep the AHM-naysayers happy.
Or it'll be McCarthy, because they're afraid of "reuniting the team that brought you Devastation". In which case I'll go cry somewhere.

It's being written by Josh Van Reyk and Shaun Knowler - the two chaps who oversee the Mosaic project.

According to an email I got from Steve Bax it'll be coming out in March 09 - just before Spotlight Drift comes out.

It's quite good, though there's a very big flaw in it:
[spoilers]HOW CAN TRACKS NOT TELL IT WAS JAZZ WHEN HE LISTENS TO JAZZ DAILY NOW?[/spoilers]

I was a bit worried by some of the really negative reviews on other forums, but I don't think it deserves that at all!
However I really feel it would have been improved without the framing device of the flashback. It reads a bit cheesy, removes any suspense (do Jazz and Tracks survive? Well, yes) and doesn't really fit in with AHM either.
Tracks should have realised it was Jazz pretty much straight away since he could hear him (unless his hearing was broken too) and the Predacons (apart from Razorclaw) get taken out way too easily for such a group of 'elite soldiers'.
As for the actual story itself, it was far better than I was expecting, if a little short and inconsequential. I didn't find myself... caring about it. Snipping the framing device would probably have solved this, but I imagine the current spotlights are supposed to tie into AHM more. It also really did seem to be much more about Tracks than Jazz.
Also as nice as the art was, the huge visor flares seemed really distracting!

Quite fun. Lots of bright and snappy dialogue.
The script felt a little linear and overly saccharine in places.
The art was very nice indeed, but sometimes the colouring was a bit overdone.
Excellent debut from Josh and Shaun, I would certainly like to see more from them.

Pleasantly surprised by this. I found it a really enjoyable read, good dialogue, art good and bad in places but overall to be recommended. I disagree with some of the above. For me the tie-in with AHM was very welcome. It reminded me of how Furman used to craft Marvel UK stories around the American continuity, plus I felt this justified Jazz's role as a commander in place of the obvious number 2 Prowl (ie due to his special training, coolness under pressure etc).
Tracks wouldn't know Jazz because at the time of story they hadn't met before. He never see's Jazz's face but obviously would make the connection later on when he hears the voice. My interpretation was that present day Tracks knows full well that it was Jazz who saved him but for whatever reason they have never discussed it. Instead he shows his appreciation in other ways such as rallying the troops around Jazz in bleaker moments.

One thing me and Steve both noticed - the art in a bunch of places, especially the first page, does NOT look like EJ Su. I wonder if he's been experimenting or if it's the colourist?
