This is interesting, I check TF Wiki and see Defiance #4 has come up with a new origin for the Transformers (for the Movie-verse anyway). It contradicts the Fun Pub origin, so that's the multiversal singularity wank thrown in the bin!

I am now suddenly interested in this series, so long as Milne didn't draw it.

You're in luck, it was Dan Khanna with a Figuero fill-in.

I've never credited the Fun Pub continuity as the official TF continuity anyway. I've got the recent Fun Pub issue Shattered Glass and I hope to read it at the weekend. I'm not holding out much hope of it being worth my while.

I haven't managed to get #4 yet, but looking forward to it big time. IDW's movie output is miles ahead of All Hail Mediocrity and is on a par with Maximum Dinobot's IMO. As for Alex Milne, believe it or not, he really has improved in leaps and bounds over on Alliance. His panels are much clearer and less cluttered than his past output.

I'd be getting Defiance right now if I wasn't concerned Titan would then reprint it.

I've actually really enjoyed Defiance. If the plots carry on in to the film itself, it'll hopefully make for a much more interesting storyline than the first one.

Agreed. I've enjoyed Defiance a lot more than Alliance. It feels in places like the Movie universe's War Within. I'm oddly a bit indifferent about the film, I'll see it and no doubt enjoy it but I'm in no great hurry for it to arrive.

Yeah, same here - the IDW and Titan comics based on it interest me more than the film itself! (That happened with the last film too, which I still haven't seen...)

I've just read Defiance and was pretty underwhelmed to be honest. Far better than Alliance, but that isn't saying much. I imagine part of it was due to the strict limitations put on them by the film. I can also forgive the rather different origin for the Fallen, which can be reconciled with a bit of thought. I believe was probably an early plot for the film which later got scrapped.
But the whole thing is a bit ... boring and straightforward really, to be honest. There's no twists or interesting concepts, just everything happening exactly as you imagine it would.

Much preferred it to the movie and anything IDW have done since Revelation, myself.

More than Max Dinos? High praise indeed!

I'd have to side with the camp that rather enjoyed Defiance. I liked the general tone of it - the somewhat formal dialogue gave it a bit of a gentlemanly, "classical" feel to it and I liked the way it sketched in a fairly solid back-story for the movie-verse.
I did like its version of Prime - the suggestion that he effectively went "walkabout" on Cybertron recruiting likeminded souls in a personal manner is a nice touch.
I actually thought it served as a better prequel to the first movie than the IDW's previous movie prequel as well.
Can't say yet if it is better than the Fallen Dave movie though. I shall let you know when I have seen the latter and can mount a comparison.

I actually think that Defiance is the best of all of the Movie tie-in comics that IDW have done so far (barring the recent movie adaptation which I still haven't read).

I do think Transformers stories work best in 4-part chuncks, ala Defiance. 6 parts usually is too decompressed.

I think the problem isn't the length of the stories as such. The problem is the writers not being able to effectively pace the stories for the six issue format. It can be done but most of the six issues haven't really done it all that well.

With a four-part story you get a nice, tightly packed story but with six issues (or in AHM's case 12+ parts) you get a four-part story but with a lot of padding to fill the gaps.
