The worst thing about being bald is getting sunburned. And of course the dog loves the taste of suncream.
So, whilst tending to my tomatoes and sundry herbs and whatnot, Coben would launch a sneak tongue attack on my head.
And re-apply and repeat.
But, anyway! T'is a new week.
Repeat after me: Breathe in the love, push out the jive.

I didn't wear a coat this morning because I thought it would make me too hot but I got soaked in the rain as a result even though I had an umbrella up.

It says something about how thin the layer of my self-esteem is these days is that I come in from a day volunteering thinking maybe there was a point to getting out of bed after all, see one nasty message in my inbox from youtube and immediately feel depressed again. Sigh.
I had some toffee crisp clusters. They were good. I shall open up ROTF Dirtboss later on.

Volunteering at the Strive project may be paying off. In a whirlwind 3 minute period this morning I snagged an interview for a post literally next door for a 12 week contract covering for maternity leave. Interview tomorrow at 2pm. Bloody hell.

Still having a spot of trouble with my on-off-on again problem with my browser. every now and then I open my Firefox or Internet Explorer browser and log onto Facebook only to discover that my home page and all profile pages are unreadable. My original solution was to uninstall and then reinstall Firefox and everything would be fine for about two weeks before it happened again. It was however ridiculous to keep doing this so I brought an internet security program and this found some adware program on my PC. This would explain why if I logged out of my browser and then logged back into it again a couple of minutes later it would load up a random advert website that I had never visited before instead of the websites that I had visited previously. Unfortunately, it has happened again tonight so the security program that I had brought isn't picking up whatever is causing the problem. Whatever it is it is only affecting Facebook and it only started to happen when I downloaded a toolbar from a Facebook ad (so I only have myself to blame there). I am now using my Safari browser and am hoping it doesn't attack that one as well.
My theory is that all I need to do is find a way of uninstalling the toolbar that I suspect started all of this from my computer. The problem is that my computer won't let me do this. It keeps on saying that I don't have permission to uninstall this toolbar so, although it is no longer on my browser it is still on my computer. Does anybody know of any program that can force an uninstall on something like this?

Could you re-set/reinstall Firefox at all?

Did the interview. Offered job. Start on Monday. Short term contract only until end of August, covering for maternity leave. No guarantees beyond that. It may be a passport back to the dole but if I don't take the chance I'll never know.
It's working within a regeneration agency, assisting unemployed people back into work in a keyworker role. It's the career change I've been trying to get, but previously couldn't get an interview anywhere, so this might be the foot in the door to that type of work that I need. I'll try to make the most of it.
I've already got a desk.
Bit of a whirlwind.

BRILLIANT!!!
I like to think that you hitting 10k on the Hub triggered this mind-staggering development.

Good stuff Ralph. Yes, keep all options open I'd say especially as todays job is only short-term. If the other one wants you enough then by the time they have interviewed you and offered you it they can wait a few more weeks?

Yesterday asked for permission to have August 14th and August 17th off work so that I get up to Birmingham for AA2009 on the Friday before the convention and leave again on the Monday and I got a reply that was neither positive nor negative. Apparently, they can't decide whether I can have those days off or not and might let me have them off but then they might not. This puts me in a bit of a sticky situation. Because I haven't booked the hotel or travel arrangements yet due to me not knowing when I will be able to get up there a problem may arise in finding that if I can have those two days off I discover that all of the rooms at the hotel are booked out and I'll have to find another hotel nearby to book into. I don't want to book the hotel yet just in case I can't have those days off after all but I just wish the gaffers would make up their mind and give me a simple straight forward answer.

Bloody Hell, Zudo, you get some crap at that place. Putting it mildly.
Well done, Doc'!!!!!! Huzzzzargh!!!!!!
Took Piglet for a walk in nearby woods today. She loved it. Made me chase her half the way home. Crazy short person. I've discovered 'In The Night Garden'. Fab stuff! I want a Pinky Ponk all of my very own! Piglet's fave game at mo is racing up and down shouting "Look at it go!" and ordering Mrs Shockprowl to say to her "Slow down, Katy!". Quite mad, can't beleive she's three in a few weeks. Hurt my back a tad at work monday night. Bit stiff, but seems to be improving. Bit disconcerting, never really hurt my back before. Gunna watch Hell Boy 2 tonight, If I can convince Mrs Shockprowl! Barf Barf!

Zudobug, I think my old bosses and your current bosses would get on well together.
RE: AA. I would be able to go now I've got work, if I can get the Monday and Friday off. I'll ask about it next week. I had been gutted that it was looking like I couldn't go due to circumstances. It would be nice to once again get drunk in a hall full of plastic robots that shout: "Buy meeeeeeeeeeee, buy me NOWWWWWWWWWWW!"

Ralph, congratulations on the new job. That is really good news.
It happens that way sometimes. You can fall into a job through being in the right place at the right time - and having the attack of inspiration that allows you to follow through on the opportunity. It does sound like this is a good chance to get your foot in the door in the field, and the combination of a chance to build up a bit of money and get experience will likely be valuable.
Still not 100% sure if I can go to AA myself - I won't find out if I am keeping my current post past the probationary period for a couple of weeks yet, so I am a bit on tenterhooks at the moment. I've got the leave provisionally booked for it though, so if I do keep the job there will be no problem from that point of view.

I did talk about Transformers a bit in answering one of the interview questions. It might have helped.

There's nothing wrong with talking Transformers at a job interview. Some people say that your interests reflect upon your own personality* and if your interests are about a bunch of battle-hardened individuals that are ready to tackle any job then it can't do you any harm in talking about them.
*not many people have actually said to me, mind you, but I still think it's a great quote.

I have been aggressively looking for jobs but to no avail. People seem to only want people who do that role currently meaning it is impossible to progress. I just feel like I'm going nowhere in my current role, it is a horrid feeling.
