"He who sets out to seek revenge should first dig two graves" - traditional Japanese proverb
Ah, so it is looming Revenge that is causing the morning to begin much cloudier and murkier than it has been for weeks. I figured it was rain clouds but there you go.

"He who sets out to seek revenge should first dig two graves" - traditional Japanese proverb Karl, that is so true. I have been on the phone for half an hour this morning to the automated telephone system for Odeon, trying to get IMAX tickets. "Please speak clearly. Which cinema would you like?" "Manchester" "I'm sorry. Did you mean Manchester Printworks or Manchester Trafford Centre?" "Manchester Printworks." "If you mean Manchester Printworks please say 'yes' now." "Yes." "I'm sorry, I didn't catch that, please repeat." "Manchester" "I'm sorry. Did you mean Manchester Printworks or Manchester Trafford Centre?" "Manchester Printworks." "If you mean Manchester Printworks please say 'yes' now." "Yes." "Please state the name of the film you would like to see. Before you respond would you like to prebook tickets for Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince." "No." "Say 'yes' if you would like to prebook tickets for Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince or 'no' if you would no like to prebook tickets for Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince." "No!" "Please state the name of the film you would like to see." "Transformers Revenge of th--" "Did you mean Transformers Revenge of the Fallen or Transformers The Movie?" "Transformers Revenge of th--" "If you mean Transformers Revenge of the Fallen please say 'yes' now." "YES!" "I'm sorry, we are not currently selling tickets for this film? Would you like to try again?" "No!" "Your options are now, speak to an operator, prebook tickets for Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, or start again." "Speak to an operator." "If you would like to speak to an operator, please state 'speak to an operator'." "SPEAK TO AN OPERATOR!" "Please hold the line while I transfer you." "I WANT TO SPEAK TO A FU--" "Hello, Printworks how can I help you?" "A real person, thank you! When will you be selling tickets for Transformers on IMAX?" "Tomorrow." "Thank you. Bye."

I can't find TF times for any of my local cinemas but as there don't appear to be any advance screenings it looks like I won't see it until next Monday.

Vue, Cineworld and Showcase are taking bookings for midnight showings for this Thursday night.
I don't think you'll find anything sooner as the big gala red carpet premier is in Leicester Square this Wednesday.

Am I think only one NOT looking forward to this? I think I saw the first Bay-Formers movie once in the cinema and although I was given the DVD as a present, I haven't bothered to watch it.

I am indifferent, and will need booze, but am curious.
The first one was not a great film as such, but a good cinema experience where the immersive environment and big screen sound made the effects work truly amazing. Saw it once on DVD and it just died on the small screen. I would see it again on IMAX, but have no interest in owning the DVD.

You're a better man than I am, Chris. I saw the first one several times in the cinema. Although I knew it was rubbish, I still enjoyed it because it was Transformers. I'm ashamed to admit it, but there you go. Normally when TF stuff is rubbish I have no interest in it (e.g. crap toys, crap cartoons, crap dubbing, crap crap), but I haven't got over the real-looking robots gimmick of the live-action franchise. I am weak.
On the other hand, something that brings TF enjoyment to millions who have no appetite for toys, cartoons or comics is surely something to rejoice in.
"How all occasions do inform against me, and spur my dull Revenge of the Fallen Dave!" - Hamlet
"What though the field be lost? All is not lost; the unconquerable will and study of Revenge of the Fallen Dave, immortal hate, and courage never to submit or yield." - Milton, Paradise Lost
"Murder's out of tune, and sweet Revenge of the Fallen Dave grows harsh." - Othello
"I'll be revenged on the whole pack of you. So swears fallen Dave." - Twelfth Night
"Thus the whirligig of time brings in his Revenges of the Fallen Dave." - Twelfth Night
"Let's make us med'cines of our great Revenge of the Fallen Dave, to cure this deadly grief." - Macbeth
"Revenge of the Fallen Dave, at first though sweet, bitter ere long back on itself recoils." - Milton, Paradise Lost
"The universe may perish, so long as I have my Revenge of the Fallen Dave." - Cyrano de Bergerac
I'll either see it at 10.30 on Friday at Vue, or at 13.20 on Friday at Cineworld. Never been to Vue before, but Cineworld has no morning screenings.
I'll be out of range of cinemas from Friday late afternoon until Monday evening due to family commitments.

I blame Fallen Dave for this malign influence.

I remain midly non-commital as far as the second Live-Action Transformers film goes. The first one was one of those films that only really works on the cinema screen where it can demonstrate its virtues of being loud, bright and explodey. Having seen it a grand total of once on DVD, and yacked through most of a second screening with a mate I have come to the conclusion that it doesn't really work on the small screen.
I share Ralph's mild curiosity. I am considering going to see it on IMAX if I get the opportunity because the larger screen gives it more real estate to be loud and explody on. Other than that I may go and see it in the cinema, and then again I may not. If I do go it certainly won't be on opening weekend as I have other commitments on those days.

I think I'll wait until it is shown on one of Sky Movie channels before I see it.
In other news, my attempt to get a simple, straight answer out of my gaffer at work regarding me wanting the Friday and Monday either side of AA2009 off work has taken a step closer. It's not a big step but when I asked him today he said that he will give me the answer tomorrow but its likely that he won't let me have the time off. And it's taken him a full month to even consider giving me such an answer!

I want to see the new TF film asap but it's not something I've been really looking forward to and in fact I have quite low expectations of it. Saw the first one once in the cinema and thought it was OKish. Got it on DVD when someone gave it me as a Christmas present but I've only watched it once.
In other news I have a 'Employee Review Form' to fill in today where I rate myself and then answer questions such as what I think of my job. So probably unemployed by the end of the week then...

Revenge of the Fallen Dave is so embedded in my head I told someone at work the other day I was going to see 'The new Transformers film. Revenge of the Fallen Dave.' They said 'Who?' and I was halfway through repeating it before I remembered that's NOT what its actually called. I blame each and every one of you.

I've just had one of the most amazing weekends of my life, which has somewhat dulled my (already somewhat dull) excitement for ROFD. Dare say I shall still catch it sometime over the weekend though. I'm hoping for a pleasant suprise (i.e. less fleshings and knob gags) but we shall see.

Well, I think 'Fallen Dave' comes from taking the piss out of a character going around calling himself The Fallen (with a capital 'T'). The comic version of The Fallen was one for portentious announcements that made no sense. He should have been called something sensible like 'Dave' or something.
Or possibly not.
In other news, despite swearing I would not get caught up in the hype, I've just booked a ticket for 7pm on Friday night. I have low expectations. If it's even moderately watchable I'll be content. All I want to see is Fallen Dave on fire spouting Furmanesque dialogue and I'll be happy.

The comic version of The Fallen was one for portentious announcements that made no sense. He should have been called something sensible like 'Dave' or something. Or possibly not. I think that is pretty much where it comes from. It is exactly the sort of thing one would say to someone who even thinks about introducing himself as "The Fallen" - the correct response is surely something along the lines of "So, previously Dave from Shoreditch then?" I have a feeling I will likely end up going to see it at some point. After all, how many Western films with Big Stompy Mecha in them are there? It is almost a professional duty to see it one way or another. Not likely to be this weekend mind you but I wouldn't be surprised if next week or the weekend afterwards my curiosity got the better of me. I don't have much in the way of expectations either. It will be be loud, explody and the action sequences will likely be distractingly hyperactively directed. I figure if I expect nothing more than competent 'splodes and a reasonable level of cheese to distract me from the "humor" which will likely make me want to sink into my seat in despair then I'll come out ahead. My workplace is full of insane characters that mean well but tend to occasionally come out with the most odd things. Today was no exception. One bloke who works there appears to have the mental age of a ten year old and, although we shouldn't laugh at those kind of people this bloke does have a tendency to say things that he really should keep to himself. He is a big fan of porn films and related stuff and today he was going around telling everybody that he was going to buy himself a blow-up doll at the weekend! When he was asked why he didn't go out and find a real woman he simply replied 'because these don't talk back to you!' In other news the gaffer who told me yesterday that he was going to give me a definite answer about me having time off work for AA conveniently did a vanishing act today so I'm no better off!
