Micromasters have little to no profile information on their backing cards, very little comic/cartoon usage, and there's blinking loads of them. The shear number works against them! As I've said, many times before, I think they would have worked better as the original 1984 characters in new smaller forms. No, Phil. No.

We get the '84/85 characters enough as it is.
I partially think if we got Beast Wars again, all the characters would be replaced with '84/85.

We get the '84/85 characters enough as it is. We didn't in 1989. And at the time those were what people wanted, hence the success of gold boxed classics, which you did't get in the US. It's interesting that by that point the comics, by then the soul media source in the west, isn't doing so much with the newer characters. Of the new 1989 characters only two, Bludgeon and Thunderwing, have any real sustained impact. Longtooth and some Micromasters get 1 issue starring roles and vanish. The only Micromaster I recall doing *anything* after their introduction is Fixit.

How many years after the Micromasters were out were they? 14? 15? 2003 so yes, 14 or 15 years for the 88 & 89 Micromasters to get individual profiles.

The only Micromaster I recall doing *anything* after their introduction is Fixit. That's not now, though, and has absolutely nothing to do with this line. We have three concurrent lines that are dedicated almost exclusively to '84/85 characters: Siege, Cyberverse, and Authentics, with '84-86 characters being the main focus of generations for the last several years. It seems to me the major two appeals of the siege micromasters is that they are A) filling out the Classics holes Hasbro has been neglecting (and most thought wouldn't ever get proper updates or reissues), and B) they are not more '84/85 characters. What fans did or did not want in 1990 is completely irrelevant to what they want now.

I think you were too old for them Phil. I loved getting 4 toys in one package as a kid, and having the Countdown base added to the fun. I didn't need them to be the 84 boys, I already had some of them.

I was the one that let you know, I was your sorry ever after, '84, '85... My favourite song of all time. And I am just realising that I am older than those guys were at the time, that my 74-75 equivalent is even longer ago than it was for them in 1995!

I think you were too old for them Phil. James possibly has a point here. However the bulk of what I said yesterday still stands: Micromasters have little to no profile information on their backing cards, very little comic/cartoon usage, and there's blinking loads of them. The shear number works against them!

I'm umming and ahhing a bit over this topic as to if it needs to be part of the main Siege thread or not. I thought so yesterday when I merged Shockprol's new thread in and now I'm not so sure and have pulled the relevant posts out again!

I thought so yesterday when I merged Shockprol's new thread in and now I'm not so sure and have pulled the relevant posts out again! Compromise then, and make this the Siege Micromaster thread, as this is still a siege topic, and not really entirely about the original micros?

The thing is the thrust has very quickly become about the original Micromasters and their lack of identity.
Some Clever editing may be required. Bear with....
EDIT: sorted. Discussion on Micromasters characters moved to the existing Micromaster thread.

They have plenty of identity even if you can't remember them! Next you'll be suggesting we don't name the stars.

I think I brought this up before, maybe in the fanzine thread, but the very lack of identity might be considered a boon - and maybe it does tie in somewhat to age. When Micromasters hit I was still very much at the playing with toys age, so I was freer to project whatever personalities I liked onto them and that was great. I think I was already starting to move away from that and was concentrating more on drawing and writing when Action Masters showed up so the mix of action figures of classic characters and brand new designs with proper bios was great at that time.
