Mike Costa. Hmm.
Also, two CYBERTRON SHATTERING EVENTS. Sigh.
Well at least it can only get better.

I liked Mike Costa's recent Starscream story. I think he could be an interesting new voice.
Fans of indicia may note from AHM #13 and this press release that Andy Schmidt appears to be the main TF editor now. Good. Can't say I've been thrilled by Denton Tipton's reign.
Let's hope this new start for the TF books is better than the McCarthy era.

They mildly surprised me with actually having an ongoing. Costa shows promise with the Starscream story in AHM #13, and although some of Don's art throws me, overall I like it.
Bumblebee mini by Zander Cannon, whose name is made of awesome, sounds like a good option as well.
NICK ROCHE WHAT. I assume he's both writer and artist on this? I am still a little wary of it though, as the accompanying image has Sniperererer Perceptor, which I didn't particularly want to see more of. I dunno, maybe Nick can make him bearable.

Nice cover image - expect the first issue to have at least 2 covers - with this image being the autobot one. Don back on ongoing series which should last longer than DW v3. Then 2 mini series tie ins.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what Mike Costa can do with Transformers after reading his GI Joe: Cobra mini, it was gripping stuff. Nick actually told me it was going to be Mike doing the ongoing comic at BotCon, but asked me not to mention it until it was formally announced.
And as for the esteemed Mr Roche doing Wrecker's? I'm delighted! I do share the same concerns as dinogrrl about Perceptor as I really hated the direction they took him in with AHM. Overall, I'm just glad they're going in a new direction so I can forget the past year (with the exception of Maximum Dinobot's, of course!).

So this new direction is going to be the ideal jumping-on point for new readers? Like AHM was? Excuse me for being a little wary...
A someone who read everything from the Furman era, and avoided everything from the AHM era, is this going to be annoyingly disconnected for me? Am I going to feel compelled to read AHM just to catch up?
Still, fair play to IDW for finally admitting to the rumour, and finally committing to an ongoing series instead of mini-series. And good luck to Mr Costa.

I'm more willing to give Mr Costa a chance than any of the alternatives to be honest. In a perfect world we'd have got Furman or Roche, but it could be so much, much worse.

I have a feeling that although it may occasionally refer to things in AHM, I don't think it will be tightly tied to it such that you'd need to do more than perhaps skim a TFWiki summary of the relevant issue.

Blimey. I didn't think they counted the Copybook-Verse work I did when I was 5. It never ends. Unless it's over; finished, etc.

A new direction. Again.
However unlike the last change of direction I'm glad there is one. Hopefully IDW TF will be good again and AHM will just be an overlong blip.

Behold!
Starscream shall possess the Matrix (or will it possess him?). All-powerful he shall go to Earth to destroy the cities of New York, Buenos Aires, Washington and Bolton. Every Transformer released as a toy (except for Ratchet) between 1985 and 1986 shall be destroyed!
But the Matrix shall not be corrupted! It's influence shall shine light on Starscream's spark and he shall fly very fast around the world in the direction opposite of how it normally spins and somehow turn back time.
Damage once done, can yet be undone. Starscream shall rid himself of the Matrix, hiding it under Ravage's litter tray. But the change is permanent, Starscream will no longer be able to commit evil deeds and, lo, Starscream shall save Christmas.

Roll up roll up... (or should that be roll out?) get a subscription to the ongoing series here - www.oneshallstand.com/shop/ongoing/issue1.htmlI'll offer a subscription to Nick's Wreckers book in the next few weeks and the Bumblebee one too. Does anyone know whether this is a G1 story or the Movie Bumblebee - bet its the latter! It seems like Simon F is consigned to the Movie-verse these days, which is ok in that a new writer (Costa) can bring something fresh to G1, but I hope its not the last we see of SF on G1.

Wait.
So IDW has been rebooting its' own licensed Transformers properties and has done so 3 times already?
I thought that all this time everything they have done WAS an ongoing TF comic?...
All I have of theirs is the Infiltration Paperback. I did want to get Stormbriger as it is a Furman work, and just like I have DW War Within and Dark Ages (or whatever)... I figured I might want this too...
But...
so...
they've rebooted the story line three times already?
Jeez.
No wonder I just finally QUIT on any new Transformers stuff. I mean - abstracting from whether a story is good or bad - the one thing I know (from my days as a Marvel Comics lovers) is that the cure for a bad story is...writing a good one.
Now, really. They could have just written better stories instead of going back to reboot everything for the upteenth time (if that's in fact what they did)...
It just dilutes the characters. It's like - who cares anymore? The same old archetypes are going to be played over and over again...

I thought that all this time everything they have done WAS an ongoing TF comic?... Pete This is the first time IDW have attempted an on-going Transformers title in name. Infiltration, Stormbringer, Escalation, Devastation, and Maximum Dinobots were solicited as miniseries where each was the sequel to the preceduing one. In practice they form a single story arc, which includes most of the Spotlight comics as well, which ends in the Revelations Spotlights and Maximum Dinobots. (Megatron:Origin is technically part of this continuity but stands alone without any direct narrative links to the other series). Then All Hail Megatron came along (dragging a handful of Spotlights of its own along) and, whilst it was solicited as being in the same univere as the previous IDW series, it was also solicited as a "soft reboot" and is sufficiently different to the IDW material (and draws so heavily on the Sunbow cartoon for its inspirations) that it is in practice mostly in a distinct continuity of its own. It would appear from the information we have about the upcoming ongoing series that IDW are sweeping large parts of All Hail Megatron under the carpet and making a bit of a fresh start once again when that launches. Officially IDW haven't actually done a "proper" reboot of their Transformers comics, but in practical terms the "-tions" series and All Hail Megatron are sufficiently distinct that they may as well be separate incarnations. It isn't a reboot per se, more a relaunch. The whole thing is still the same continuity and characters from Infiltration onwards, even if it did go really wonky with All Hail Megatron

I just never liked that the characters were so redesigned from Infiltration onwards. I like the old Marvel style. I'm a lost cause. Pete

First page of the new TF ongoing seriesPete, don't click on the link. It contains a G1 character that has been redesigned to match the Classics line aesthetic. That said, he looks fantastic and I already want to buy him as a toy.

It's just clicked with me as to what that style reminds me of. In the Reign of Starscream, there are a lot of characters based on the toys that were recoloured Energon/Cybertron moulds. And Alex Milne tried to make them look less like the toys and more in line with the robonatomy of the films, all smashed in and stuff. Looks like Don's doing the same, here. For whatever reason, Hasbro only knows.

I have no idea who that is It's this fellow. I wasn't able to guess until I saw the name plate on his knees, and I have the toy! I've spent the last few minutes trying to decide the continuity in which I should classify the current comic. It's clearly not the original 'G1' series anymore, nor is it exclusively a Classics or Ultimate comic. In the absence of an appropriate category, I'm thinking of it as an 'amalgamated universe' comic series that has absorbed characters and design aesthetic from the original series (the Pretenders and Kup, among others), Universe Classics (look at the design of Hot Rod and Jazz), Masterpiece (Prime, mainly) and, to a lesser extent, the Cybertron (the disguised Decepticon tank in AHM 11-12 is reminiscent of an Autobot in the movie and cybertron(?) line) and Animated (Blurr) sub-lines.
