Looks like Don's doing the same, here. I wish he wouldn't, it just looks weird.

Marvel haven't really rebooted the X-men since Astonishing v3 came along. Only really slight change in the new dark reign issues - compared to 1999 - 2006. X-men looking more 80's, then the sword, goggles, then movie & back to 70's.

Like they'd been doing under Furman?

Hiding from the humans how exactly, when the whole danged planet knows about the existence of giant shape-shifting robots tearing up the place?
And the Earth being rebuilt bit - I should have bet money on that. I knew they'd gloss over it and walk away. Buggers.
And does anyone else feel the 'Continuum' piece is meant to retcon their patchwork together? Wonder what they'll include and if anything they leave out then becomes non-canon?

Continuum sounds like one of Marvel's 'Saga' publications, which are summaries of key events in previous stories alongside panels from the comics. They seem pointless to me in the days of trades but someone is buying them as Marvel are still putting them out. Heck, there's a special HC compendium of them coming out!

To be fair, the majority of the Marvel Saga thingys are freebies. There's just the odd one or two where they add a framing sequence and charge for it [Astonishing X-Men for example].

Neither of the two covers impress me all that much.

Yes, can't say I like the style personally, although I can appreciate Don's talent and desire to try something new. I think the art of the second issue cover is better than the first one, myself.
According to Andy Schmidt at IDW, this isn't being done in response to Hasbro requests, although they certainly have interfered in artistic representation of characters before.
Here's what Andy said:
"Sure. That perception is not entirely correct. There was no corporate decision. Don wanted to take different elements from different incarnations and I stood by the decision. Don't not the only artist on here. Look at the "Last Stand of the Wreckers" cover we've released or the Bumblebee cover we've released. Neither of those are movie-fied. What we're doing differently is letting the artists be artists. We're letting them show off their unique skills. Casey, Guido, and many others are working on other TF projects and no one but Don is doing what Don does. No one but Guido is penciling them the way Guido does. It's about letting the artists bring something unique to their stories."
Take that as you will. In any case, I don't think Don is the artist in perpetuity for the ongoing, and I think they'll be changing artists each major story arc.

I'm torn. On the one hand I hate 'house styles' and think it is good artists can do what they want. Some of my favourite TF art has been more offbeat (ie Geoff Senior's cubism, Derik Yaniger's G2 art).
On the other hand, those faces are fugging ugly. It looks like everyone has beards.
So I guess I like the fact that artists have more freedom, I just personally, to me, think the choices he made were bad ones. I'm sure others will like them though.

Oh I definitely think the lack of house style is a plus I just don't like Don's current designs.

Don's looks total shite and Wildman's looks like he really couldn't be arsed. Someone on that forum did a hald decent mock-up attempt though: i31.tinypic.com/2zix8u8.jpg

Character redesigns
Bumblebee looking more Movie like Optimus going Classic style Jetfire could become a nightmare to draw with deadlines Ironhide should have those rear side windows tucked on his back.

Found via Seibertron, and posted on CBR:And... there's barely anything mentioned that we didn't already now, and IDW's deliberately keeping details quiet. Well that's a pointless interview then! How's that meant to encourage people?

The art looks good
Rare cover - litho image?
Grimlock, Sludge, Snarl, Slag V Devastator Ratchet V Thundercracker [still should swap colours with Skywarp so name matches] Jazz V Blitzwing Prowl, Sideswipe, Sunstreaker not doing much. Optimus V Megatron/Laserbeak. Ironhide/Bumblebee V Ravage/Rumble Hotrod[Rodimus/rodimus major - or whatever name Hasbro place on toy if they make one like this] V Soundwave Hardhead V Astrotrain/Skywarp Runabout/Runamuck Starscream/Ratbat Scorponok V Swoop/Kup/daft[Hasbro aren't making a toy of me when i just look like Cybertron Overdrive]
then 2 inside.
Scorponok digging into a city - that is a clawed arm. If a Decepticon stayed still long enough to become an actual earth city/town. then get scene later on where someone dicking down then suddenly wonder why they hit metal.
Guess that Prowl 3 split door might become a pain to draw after a few issues - but like the Len doing Wolverine as Death - ok for a cover but not having to draw it for a few months.
