It must be said, I did make a working X-Bomber out of lego as a child. You and me both, brother. It's that Barbie doll, the one you dressed as Lamia. Er, no. I can only assume you had a Lego-deprived childhood. Martin

r.e. Star Fleet: Beg to differ. The Skull is okay, X-Bomber is teh SHIT. I have a great soft spot for both of them to be honest. The Skull is wonderfully unexpected - it looks errie not only because it seems out of place in space instead of on the ocean but also because it looks like it has decided to demand an exemption from some of the physical laws that the other ships have to obey. X-Bomber is a masterpiece of conventional design - very much my one of my two baselines for how I envisage high-tech spacecraft should look. It coloured how I envisaged all sorts of things, from the Exedra in the Tom Swift Jnr books to the ships in the Foundation trilogy. Never managed that sadly. I did build a carrier based on the on the same "parasite fighter" principles of the Imperial Cruisers though. Karl

Ahh! You beat me to starting off the next letter. Sigh! I can't think of a show that begins with S at the moment after my two nominees - Star Fleet and Spiderman & his Amazing Friends have already been mentioned. Allow me time to recharge and I'll come back in the morning with a barrage of the good, the bad and the ugly of 80's kids TV!

You can go first next week. I can't think of any shows from the '80s that start with the letter 'T'. Martin

One of my friends had a real X-Bomber toy bought while on holiday on the continent.

Even now, as an 'adult', I still get pissed off that the Continent had so much good stuff that we didn't. Jayce toys, Samurai Pizza Cats, Uylesses 31 (I believe), and now Star Fleet.
All because our Toy Shops/Country was too small...

Before Going Live there but after Swap Shop there was a Saturday morning show called Saturday Superstore. There are quite a few clips from the show on Youtube but no intro (the Retrojunk.com website has the intro though) but I can't be bothered to find one in particular to put here. I vaguely remember watching the show but thats about it - my main staple of Saturday morning kids shows really all started with Going Live though.

Back in the 80's the BBC made several great kids dramas - some of which were adapted from kids books. This one was no exception and I can remember actually having the book of this when I was younger.

Anyone remember this one? I remember that. Some very nicely rotoscoped animation there. Andy

Sooty also did something back in the day that the politically correct brigade wouldn't tolerate on todays TV - that of hitting somebody on the head with a hammer!
