I remember watching this when I was living in Germany between 1985-87. I am unsure if or when it was shown in the UK.

Now for one of those old kids shows from the 80's that I remember but very few other people do. In 1983 (according to my book) there was a cartoon on ITV called Teetime and Claudia. If my memory serves me correct it was about a cat and a dog ... and thats all I can remember! My book states that two series of the cartoon were made in 1983 but as far as further information goes that is it. The last time I checked neither Wikipedia or Youtube had anything on this cartoon. I remember it and my dreaded book lists it so it must exist.

The show Minder must have left quite an impact on a group of British animators in the 80's because in the late 80's somebody came up with a cartoon starring mice and they hired George Cole and Dennis Waterman to do the voices of the two lead characters. This show was called Tube Mice and the intro can be found here (and not on Youtube) www.retrojunk.com/tv/videos/2844-tube-mice/2525/#intro

... and a bunch of tugs with faces!
EDIT: I've just checked up on this show on Wikipedia and it turns out that in the early nineties the show was edited and sent over to America to become segments in a Sunbow show called Salty's Lighthouse. New voices were also created for the Tugs and these included Ian James Corlett, Scott McNeil and Gary Chalk - hmmm, I wonder where I've heard those names before!

It seemed to be raining cats and dogs in the world of cartoons in the 80's. I've already mentioned a load of cat cartoons and about one or two dog ones and here's another canine cartoon - Towser (unfortunately, the episode here is in Dutch so unless you can speak the language you won't have a clue what Towser is barking on about!

And now to end my part in this weeks letter I will submit a vague and obscure cartoon from the 80's that hardly anybody on this forum has ever heard of

It might be - who knows but I do remember the Phoenix King being ripped off and used in this show!
Anyway, we are now down to the last six letters of this countdown and this week we are onto U - V and here is a classic that retells an old legend but puts it into a sci-fi setting.

Dear god but that Voltron was awful. That intro has just been the only thing I've ever watched to do with it, and it has killed any interest in experiencing any more!

That is ok, you have seen the best bit. It exists solely as an object lesson in how glueing together two unsuccessful and rather poor Japanese series has a good probability of creating a rather poor American series... If all you have seen is the intro then that is an ideal point at which to stop.. Karl

Now onto a Saturday morning kids show that was one of the replacements for Going Live when that show took it's annual summer break. This one was shown in 1988 and 1989 and is called UP2U ... and there's no Youtube video of it (which is probably a good thing)! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UP2U_(BBC_TV_series)Also, here is a list of the other Saturday morning shows that replaced the more well known shows between series. www.saturdaymornings.co.uk/summers/shows.shtml

Well, it seems that this weeks pair of letters has now been exhausted because I can't find anymore 80's kids shows beginning with U or V (I had consered the Sci-Fi show V but that isn't really a kids show) so I decided to go back and submit one or two that I missed from the previous letter T. This one is the final Look and Read series that aired in the 80's and is called Through the Dragons Eye. Apparently, it was criticised at the time for looking too much like the Chronicles of Narnia TV series that aired in the same year (1989). www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6MQWIPHhsk

Going back a bit... I remember watching this when I was living in Germany between 1985-87. I am unsure if or when it was shown in the UK. Yes Thunderbirds 2086 (Scientific Rescue Team TechnoVoyager) was shown in the UK on the BBC. I believe it's what the blokes who made Starfleet in Japan did next Trapdoor @ Child of the 80sNow for a bunch of trains with faces! A similar shot of the train going under a bridge with the boy leaning over is still used on today's Thomas & Friends.

It's a a shame that the Child of the 80's website doesn't have a proper forum like this. I'm sure there are a few people who would like to discuss a varied range of stuff from the 80's other than what is currently on there.
