Actually, looking at it again, Man of Iron doesn't have a low word count at all. It's just a few pages here and there that are largely word-free, but they're more than made up for by the text on e.g. the history flashback pages.

Right. I had been confused by you saying it had a low word count! Now I understand.

I did it a wrong. In fact, it was a double wrong, because I remembered it as having a low word-count (something I generally associate with poor comics) even though I'd only just put it down because the most memorable - and therefore powerful - pages in Man of Iron are the ones devoid of words - the dream sequence, the Bluestreak sequence, etc. - which proves that the lack of words on these pages was well-judged. I suppose it doesn't get into my top tier of favourite stories - but only the second tier, along with the likes of The Smelting Pool / The Bridge to Nowhere and the Headmasters mini-series - for the other reasons I mentioned, the bloodthirstiness and the plot holes (to which I add Jazz's stupidity at the end in not checking whether there were Autobots in the ship). But it's right up there with the very nearly best of the best. Martin

A good number of Collected Comics some of which contain stories never reprinted in trades on sale here. Worth getting if you've never read Wrath of Guardian/Grimlock. Martin

Wrath of... is brilliant. It was my first taste of pre T:2006 TFUK comics.

I do wonder if it will be in the upcomg 'Best of Grimlock*' trade for it would fit well there. 'Best of Optimus Prime' has a previously not-reprinted-since-ye-olde-Marvel-UK special story 'And There Shall Come a Leader', so you never know.

*Which I will probably feel duty-bound to buy anyway for the Furmanator to sign what it being his favourite character
