Big Finish had three of their Stargate audios on sale a Chrimbo time and I listened to them recently. I thought they were absolutely excellent and really nailed the 'look' and feel of Stargate perfectly. I can see myself picking up more of them at some point, especially as current filmed SG seems a remote possibility.

Stargate's coming back....sorta. MGM is starting their *own* online subcription service that seems to be dedicated exclusively to Stargate stargatecommand.co/This fall they launch a new Stargate miniseries called Stargate Origins, that is a prequel to Stargate and SG1, about Dr Cathrine Langford, the daughter of the archeologist who discovered the giza gate. It'll be a ten episode series, with each episode being ten minutes long. So... a decent sized movie. I'm honestly not sure about how much they can do, as it was Daniel Jackson and Sam Carter who figured out how to open the gate. Unless they retcon something where she fivured it all out and then lied?

Correction: FILMING starts this fall, not premiering. My bad there.

RE: Language issue. I get it. I reeeeaally understand it, why they just fell into the typical "everyone in the universe speaks insert audience country's language here" trope every scifi across the world falls into.
You've got hundreds of guest stars coming in across the life of a long running series. They all have to learn how to say their lines in X language, many such languages are dead. Many of them being different from episode to episode. You need language coaches, and linguists versed in dead languages on hand.
You either need to dedicate a ton of time to having your characters break the language barrier of the week. It's one thing to do this for a stand alone movie. It's much much more difficult for something on the scale of a TV series like SG1. They could have had them discover an alien babelfish translator in Episode 3, that coincidentally doesn't know goa'uld, but that's honestly isn't any less silly than just ignoring the problem altogether.
The problem though could have been revisited and handled much more easily in Atlantis, though. All humans in that galaxy are descended from the Lanteans. It would make sense if they all spoke variations of latin, turned into some fictional thing they could make up. Then with Teyla, and then Ronan on the team, those two could be translators for the crew.

Much like Ralph has been going through ToS, I've been going through all of Stargate, from the movie through Universe. And I've come to a realization.
When you apply all the knowledge we've learned about the Goa'uld to the original movie, Ra's trip to Abydos becomes hilarious. What we've learned is we see goa'uld with ARMIES of jaffa, in chainmail and full armor. And commanding fleets of warships and fully capable deathgliders.
Meanwhile, Ra shows up to Abydos with one pyramid ship, as far as we know only TWO deathgliders only capable of atmospheric flight, and no jaffa. Just, maybe a dozen human guards. Not only that, they were basically in jaffa beachwear. sandals, and white skimpy linens. And he brought all the kids. This was a vacation.
From Ra's point of view, this was like driving the kids out for a day at the beach, then The Spanish Inquisition pops up, starts a riot, puts an atomic bomb in his car, and leaves.

Ba'al would not have been nearly as effective or enjoyable without him in the role.
