Just back home now. Catching up on emails then going for a lie down.
Alcohol is bad, although I was king of the dance floor last night. Also spent the time inbetween the meal and the reception drawing transformers for several of the kids who were there.

Working myself up to phone the DWP.
Still nothing back from last week's phone interview. Think that one's gone too.

Piglet sang Incy Wincy Spider all the way through today perfectly. Usually she misses a word or two out. (and then there's the version where the wall falls down on top of the spider!).

The traditional nursery rhymes are far more violent that what we give them credit for. A wall falling down onto a spider, Jack and Jill falling down a hill and injuring themselves and Humpty Dumpty falling off a wall and cracking his head open!

Wonderful day at work with no furnace (thanks landlords!). Going on a week now, regularly hitting zero at nights and barely making it to 10 during the day.
Oh, I'm sorry, did I say 'wonderful'? I meant 'fucking freezing'.

Still nothing back from last week's phone interview. Think that one's gone too. -Ralph Apparently not. Rather surprisingly got a call back today to say I'm on to The Next Stage next Monday for a panel interview (yay) and a computer test (oh bollocks, if it's using Excel I'm fooked). Woke up with a cold this morning. Rather annoying, as there was no sign of it last night. -Ralph

Splendid news (the next stage. Not the cold).
Channeling will be yours on Monday!

I'd like to think watching The Freakmaker got me through that phone call.

Ace, what job is that Ralph?
If it is an excel test, just keep hitting F1 and using help, no shame in that!

Go-go gadget Ralph!
Fed up with pigeons and jackdaws depleting my hanging seed feeder which they can't perch on but have learnt how to flap and hover while raiding, I have on my day off today invested in a cage-enclosed hanging seed feeder which little birds can get into to reach the food, but whose mesh is designed to keep out bigger birds. Within ten minutes of it going up, the greenfinch flew down and figured out how to use it. The pigeons and jackdaws are there now, but are flummoxed. Hurrah!
Also had a haircut.

Ace, what job is that Ralph? If it is an excel test, just keep hitting F1 and using help, no shame in that! Ironically, it's an Employment Advisor role and it would involve a move to Edinburger but I'll cross that bridge if I need to. I contacted Strathclyde Uni's career advice service for some help with it, ie mock interview (which they advertise as part of the service) but they seemed to have great difficulty understanding the concept of my simple query. Apparently I can watch a DVD or send an e-mail if I want. I pointed out that what I wanted was a human being to talk but but, ah well, made an appointment with the Strive Project instead and will do a crash course on excel while I'm there. Tried to go along to the Scottish Graduate Recruitment Fair today but felt like death so had to bail after 5 minutes. Will try again tomorrow. These types of events rarely yield results but I do maintain the attitude of trying every avenue I can. -Ralph

In other news, my parents very kindly saved up some spare cash over recent months so I could replace the increasingly fooked laptop. Just got e-mail saying it's been dispatched! I look forward to being able to watch streaming video again, being able to edit videos without wanting to stick my head in an oven and not worrying about it setting the table on fire with the heat coming off it.

a computer test (oh bollocks, if it's using Excel I'm fooked). -Ralph Excel is easy when you get the hang of it. Just remember: + means addition - means subtraction * means multiplication / means division I think! (it's been a while since I used it)!

Just back from a week away in Whitby, staying in a little basement flat on the West Cliff. Fantastic week. I got to get out and about to see a little bit of the area - walked the six miles to Robin Hood's Bay (a little village down the coast) on one day. Six Miles they say - that would be as the crow flies then, because taking into account the terrain along that stretch it is far and away the toughest six miles that I have ever walked!
I did a bit of the history thing as well - visited Scarborough Castle and Whitby Abbey which were both well worthwhile. I also took a couple of trips on the local preserved steam railway. I have a great love of rail travel in general, and chugging along behind a good noisy, solid, steam engine is always a joy.
Of course, being by the seaside I had to get myself the odd Ice Cream or two. I discovered that down on the Northeast coast it is possible to get a Cinder Toffee Ice Cream of all things. Very nice it was too. (I suffered a bit afterwards as I didn't realise it would have so much egg involved in the making of it that it would make my allergy kick in - but the ice cream was nice enough to make it almost worth it).

Sounds like a nice break for you, Karl!
Ralph, I shall channel for you for the "Next Stage".
Me, I have a bit of a chest/throat infection. I'm coughing and spluttering around the place like a drowning manatee.

I had a mega sleep from 9pm to around 11pm and from 1am to 11am and feel much better for it.
After only 5 weeks the DWP have decided that yes, I can have some money after all. It's not a lot but it's better than nowt. I start getting it...sometime.
The new laptop just arrived. Yay!
Get well soon, G.

I bought some grapes from Sainsbury's on Sunday. I opened them yesterday and found they were mould-ridden.
This afternoon I popped in to the store to tell the manager. He gave me a £10 voucher.
I bought ice cream!
