For those who have seen the series before, I recommend watching the documentary on disc 7 first. I found it enriched my enjoyment of the series as I went through it again.

In which case I may break off from watching the episodes and fire that up before I return to A,B & C.

Oh, the doc is excellent. No punches pulled as to how hard it was to work with McGhoohan.

We've got Colombo on ITV1. Patrick McGoohan is assisting with enquiries!

Sorry to resurrect the thread like this, but I'd urge anyone who loves the Prisoner to get hold of Danger Man (the hour-long episodes). You can really see the seeds of Number 6 in John Drake, and there's some terrific performances. They don't make telly like that any more, and it's a damn shame.

I see this morning that George Baker (Wexford, Doctor Who and many others) has died aged 80. He had a credit as Number Two on his CV leaving just three of them remaining: Georgina Cookson ("Many Happy Returns"); Peter Wyngarde ("Checkmate"); and Derrin Nesbitt ("It's Your Funeral")

One of those great character actors who popped up in loads of things. He was especially good in 'I, Claudius'.

He was indeed fantastic. But then everyone was excellent in I. Clavdivs.

The Prisoner is now 50! And yet, worryingly, in many ways as relevant as ever.

Indeed, and something that the folks on the making of doc on the DVD set proclaimed would happen.

We may have to go.
One day we should do Portmerion.

Any time I have looked into Portmeiron the costs for staying there have been astronomical. -Ralph

Staying in Portmerion is a bit pricey - they make a good income there from tourism and tend to market towards the high end. However, there are a few of places in North Wales from which it might be reachable which are more reasonable such as Conwy (which has a nice castle and fascinating sword shop) and Llandudno, which as well as being a long-standing seaside resort also once was familiar stomping grounds of the Liddel family and the Reverend Charles Dodgson.

I went to Llandudno as a kid. My main memory of it is of a never ending overpowering gale force wind.

I went on a school residential when I was in Year 7 to Conwy. That included trips to both Portmerion and Llandudno. Was Llandudno the place with the cable car ride and the dodgy waxworks museum?
