had enough of my cold/flu, I'm on the lemsip today! weirdly though all yesterday afternoon and evening i had a horrible headache, so I ended up going to bed at like 8:30 but during my sleep I had a weird dream, and well, I wont go into it too much but it ended with a very passionate kiss, and I woke up at about 3am, with no headache in the slightest Maybe it was magic?

Happy 46th anniversary everyone. Indeed, indeed my boy. *clutches lapels* Today started out at ten to two in the morning when I woke up the first time. Then continued at half-past three, with an encore at six fifteen.... So I shambled into work with a cracking headache on one side of my head, which remained in place all day. Then I managed to crack the other side of my head off the underside of a shelf this afternoon. I figure that at least both sides of my head then matched, both containing headache.... Karl

Although I no longer work at my former place of employment I still get told of things that happen there via my brother. Today, he came home with a couple of interesting pieces of information. The first was that another worker has been given a disciplinary for swearing at one of the managers (ironic really considering that they swear at the workers on a daily basis) and when the manager gave out the disciplinary to said worker she told him that he shouldn't keep his lunch in the rucksack he takes to work. What gets me is that how did she know he keeps his lunch in that location unless her or somebody else has been looking in his rucksack which is an invasion of privacy.
The second piece of information came when last night one of the workers saw one of the male gaffers outside of work chatting up a woman. He mentioned this to the said gaffer and the gaffer threatened to wait for him outside the factory gates and hit him if he ever mentioned his personal life in work again! The worker then said that he would make a deal with said gaffer. If that gaffer stops talking about the workers personal life inside working hours then he would do likewise. The gaffer responded by saying 'if I want to talk about your personal life inside work I will do!'
Ah, the joys of working at a place where the gaffers think they are above the law!

Poo. Worked late tonight so as to go on from there to the museum for a free lecture by famous geneticist Steve Jones. Arrived there to find notice on door saying lecture had been cancelled. Lesson learnt: Check the website. www.museumwales.ac.uk/en/whatson/?event_id=3982Well, anyway, in the spirit of that I've checked the National Rail website and it seems my journey to Scotland is unaffected by the flooding in the Lake District, which is more important than some silly talk. And consolation... Star Fleet original soundtrack CD on order! Martin

It's been raining inside the shop for most of the last week. Today it's getting beyond a joke- since all the buckets and signs are in use elsewhere we've taken to placing empty cardboard boxes with "CAUTION WET FLOOR" written on the flaps under the remaining holes in the roof. The bucket in the sports section will need emptied in the morning- it's getting pretty bad there. Ah well.
Off to work on the 2009 edition of the Scotcon Trivia Quiz of Doom. I have to make sure there will be weeping, rending of garments and gnashing of teeth.

I did consider it soon after leaving the place but then went a little cold on the idea. As for the other members of staff there I think they are more afraid of loosing their jobs if they try such a thing. The factory is one of those places where they are looking to get rid of the English workers and replace them with Polish ones because they don't complain about poor wages and awful treatment.

Burns is back on-line! Time to ramp up that post-count. Actually, I haven't missed the net at all as I was so busy last week setting up home. Still got stuff I need to get, but it's always the way when moving. I badly need a desk for this laptop! Ah well, all in time.
Started new job yesterday. It's a two week induction before you get properly thrown into things, but the ongoing training is quite extensive. Place has got a good vibe. Good set of ethics thus far. The job looks very, very challenging and demanding and at this point I have no idea how I'll be able to manage it and I have been getting The Fear but us new starts are assured we'll work out out ok as the company seems pretty proud of its recruitment procedure so hey ho. Certainly, I think that although it'll be quite hard and fast paced if I can get my head around it it will be pretty damn cool, so fingers crossed. It'll be my job to support sick/disabled people into sustainable employment. I'll also get to learn how to deliver training, which will be great for future prospects.
Edinburger so far is pretty cool. Flat so far is working out fine, quiet neighbours, everything I need in walking distance or a short bus ride away (which is good until I get my bearings). The only thing I have to travel any distance for is the sorting office, which is half an hour on the bus Many excellent take-aways (I am going to get fat!) and I tried out the cinema which is only a few mins walk away and it was pretty good.
So far I'm finding the area to be pretty friendly. Of note is that the bus service is much cheaper, cleaner and more reliable than Glasgow. Hurray for Lothian buses, boo for First Bus.

Finally got a majority of my Christmas goods down from the attic. I went through my cards list and my cards themselves and after a year or two in storage the envelops have been stuck shut. So now I have a lot of cards with faulty envelopes. Should be fun. I may just have to buy new cards... Either way, a lot of my contacts TMUK related are way out of date postal-address-wise since so many people have moved etc. I might need some updated addresses in confidence for future reference .

The gaffer responded by saying 'if I want to talk about your personal life inside work I will do!' Ah, the joys of working at a place where the gaffers think they are above the law! Having previously worked in a shitty environment like this I can offer the following advice: (No offence intended but the people who work there need to seriously 'man up' and play the game with the same contempt their **** bosses are): 1) Provide anonymous tip-offs to the Health & Safety Exec about random things - even if they don't find anything it will cause major inconvenience. 2) Allow said manager to actually hit someone - then have the person assaulted prosecute both the individual for assault and the company for allowing it to take place on company property / failing in their duty of care to the workforce. 3) Take out private lawsuit against both - your union will generally support you with this. 4) Multiple members of staff keep personal logs of threats from managers and report them via the union to the police. 4) Organise WORK TO RULE days where everyone on a shift works EXACTLY to the company's handbook / policy. This will significantly slow down work and they will not be able to do anything about it. Simply quote their own company policy against them whenever they complain. And that is just the nicer legal tings you can do. I have other ways of dealing with filth like this.

The workplace would have been so much better if the union had got recognition within the place. Unfortunately, the gaffers managed to persuade most of the workers that the union were money-grabbing fatcats who weren't interested in workers rights and as such said workers voted against the union in the ballot in February this year. Most of them now know their mistake but I think they're guessing that because the union is no longer in the factory they have no-one to turn to. Besides, as I've mentioned before I think they are too afraid to lose their jobs if they fight back against the gaffers - I lost mine on my first offense over a phony signature on a piece of paperwork (a crime that I must point out is less heinous than some crimes committed by people who still work there!).
As for working exactly to the company's handbook or policy thats a bit difficult because most of the workers don't know it. The gaffers usually keep it to themselves and change it as and when it suits them.

Phil - all the info I have on ordering the Star Fleet soundtrack has been posted in the Star Fleet thread. It was advertised on some website years ago (http://www.sfxb.co.uk/aboutshow/starfleet6.html) and now those of us who signed up are getting e-mails telling us how to order. I just went ahead and ordered via PayPal. Fingers crossed it'll be good!
Chris - I'd urge against wasting the Health and Safety Exec's time. Only call them if there's a genuine problem. I work with them closely and they're busy chaps with plenty to do.
Ralph - sounds like a tough job but one that will be incredibly rewarding when you make a positive difference to someone's life. I'm sure you'll make the most of it.

Hello Sportsfans!!!!
Glad the move and job looking good, Doc'!
I have news: THE SHOCKPROWLS ARE MOVING!!!! Only across town, not to Mars n'nothin'! It's a lovely house, with garden for Piglet. It's all been up in the air, as these things are (amazes me that anybody is ever able to buy/sell) for coupla months now, didn't mention it much 'cos I didn't want to jinx it. But we exchanged yesterday (AT FREAKIN' LAST DAMNIT!!!), and the move is on the 2nd. HUZZZZAAAAGH!!!!!!!!
Piglet is very excited about the garden (we don't have one where we are now), and wants to paint her new bedroom yellow. We didn't tell her 'till we were sure incase if fell through. Mrs Shockprowl sat her down and told her, and as soon as she was told that all her toys would be comming with us as well, Piglet was all for it.
House is gunna need a bit of renovation, but I kinda like that fact 'cos you can make it your own. This will be the forth house I've owned, but it feel totally different, 'cos it's the first that me and the Mrs have bought together. It's our first 'family' home. EEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!
I'm just alittle excited. Wish the house selling/buying lark was different though. What a ball ache! After all that worry, actually moving will be a breeze!

Congrats on the house buy shockprowl. Sounds like it'll be a nice place.
Tomorrow is Thanksgiving over here in USAmerica. Great excuse to sit around and eat lots of food and watch movies. Which is exactly what I will be doing at my mates' place. Sadly I still have to go to work on Friday while most others get a 4 day weekend, but hey, turkey!

Does a union have to be recognised by a company for the union to be able to help an employee that has a problem with said company? It seems a bit one sided and unfair if a company breaking the law can't be prosecuted because they don't recognise the organisation making the prosecution against them.
