Oh we knew about the Daleks a while ago. They are also visible on the BBC promo artwork they've put out for the Special. Someone needs to have a polite word with Chibbers! -Ralph Paging Matt Marshall, paging Matt Marshall!

I assumed as this is a magazine cover the new design is a known thing, I've just not been interested enough in the special to follow what's going on with it so it was a bit of a surprise.
To be fair, I don't think anyone could redesign the Daleks without criticism. Impossible task.

It's just the one from the new year special painted black, isn't it? Anyway I believe tgere's just ONE of those and the rest are all normal, so I recall from the location photos on the Severn Bridge

To be fair, I don't think anyone could redesign the Daleks without criticism. Impossible task. The redesign done for 2005 onwards has been quite popular. I personally loved the 2010 ones and was sad they went away almost instantly. At least Chibbers is actually promoting the Special as a Dalek story this time, unlike last time. Let's hope it's back on Christmas Day, when everyone could do with a bit of escapism after 2020, unless that idea is too exciting for Chibbers. -Ralph

I'm quite excited by the prospect of a WALLCHART and FREE NEW TARGET BOOK with the next DWM. I wonder what that's all about.

So this is three of the seven that were supposed to be out last summer but got bumped to March. That would explain why DWM seem to be doing a Target thing next month. The covers for all of them bar The Witchfinders are on Amazon, so that must be tomorrow's reveal.
I'm really intrigued by DWM's claim they're giving away a new and exclusive Target novel. Surely not a full blown TV story novelisation? I know they gave away Target books before, but that was just a warehouse clearance exercise. A proper new Target book? I would be really impressed by that. Seems fishy to me.

The only TV 20th century story that hasn't had a novelisation is DIMENSIONS IN TIME...

Hmm. Yes.
...
I was more hoping perhaps more than seven had been commissioned and DWM have snagged a spare one, a new series episode. However I can't escape the feeling there's some trick to this.
SFX used to do a lot of cheap paperbacks as freebies though. It's not impossible. Oh unless this is another £10 issue, that would cover a paperback.

It is a £10 issue.
Could it be a reissue of THE PARADISE OF DEATH?

I don't think a reissue can count as new and exclusive?

I see the Smiths bookazine line has been rebooted into a series examining 'landmark' years in the series, starting with 1965. Which is nicely vague enough to avoid saying whether this is going to cover every year, or as many as the series manages before the buyers get bored and they try something else. merchandise.thedoctorwhosite.co.uk/doctor-who-chronicles-1965-bookazine/Do I need any more of these? Year by year is more appealing than some of the mad themes they were doing with those books but I dunno if I need more on the pile.

Hmmm. Themed year books could appeal to me. There MUST be a 1986 edition.

How fantastically disappointing. Claiming that is 'new and exclusive' is naughty. I was really lookig forward to that. The wallchart better be good then, but yes, paying for promotional material? That's bad.

Yeah. This is all shite.
DWM posters mostly come on thin stuff that pretty much tears in half when folded. Mine had a hole at the central fold point before I'd even opened it. It's a double sided poster with (at a quick glance, may be wrong) the original Target covers on one side and reprint versions on the other.
The book is indeed marketing bobbins. The only thing remotely interesting is that the except from Pirate Planet has a preface that says the Target version is based on the televised version of the story and Penguin's website says it's 'all new'. For a minute I thought that might mean Goss had rewritten parts to make it more Target styled, but having flicked through I don't think he has. It's just heavily abridged to remove anything that isn't directly plot.
