Many thanks, one and all.
Seems to have turned out well.
It's not a big issue compared to those struggling to find jobs, but everyone's biggest worry worries them, even if it ain't that big.
Basically, for the last 2 and a half years my job has been to be on permanent secondment from organisation A to organisation B, to do job X. Although my contract with organisation A is a permanent one, every year, my team leader in organisation B has to justify the money that goes to organisation A to pay for my post by talking up the size of job X. Now actually, I've got job X so well under control that it only takes me a couple of days a week to stay on top of, and I fill up the rest of my time doing work officially assigned to other team members whose workload actually exceeds their full-time post. Although I am as busy as other team members, because of the way things are on paper my post is the least secure in the team.
Anyway, my team leader in organisation B has recently advertised externally for someone to come in and be employed in organisation B to do job Y (same pay grade), which is a big job with guaranteed workload for a good long while into the future. I asked him if it would be sensible for me to apply for this job. After humming and hawing over it, he has decided to withdraw the advertisement, scrap the vacant post and start justifying my post in future (as a secondee from organisation A) on the basis of doing both job X and job Y (which is more than enough to keep me busy in the long term). And it means he can show his boss he is saving money by scrapping a post to which no-one had yet been appointed (so no-one gets made redundant). Best possible outcome from my point of view too as I would rather be seconded than work directly for organisation Y.
They tell me I was worrying for nothing, because even if the team got squeezed and my post got scrapped, I wouldn't be the team member to go, but still, nice to have a bit more stability and security from now on.

That is indeed good news.
I got an email today from KAUST saying that they had received the last of my documentation and will be evaluating my application to do an M.Sci (and from there on a Ph.D) at their campus over the coming weeks.
Oo-er.

Could I have some channeling for tomorrow please. Bombshell letter from letting agency demanding 6 months rent upfront if I stay on past mid-May. Naturally, this is an impossible sum and I really can't be faffing about trying to find somewhere else to live as my probation at work does not end until end of June and I really need the security of a stable place to live at least into the summer when I know if I've got a job or back on the dole.
Rather stressed and anxious. Hope to get this resolved tomorrow. Don't people think before they send these kinds of letters?

Nope. 6 months rent now or move out is the gist of it.

Channelling is thoroughly engaged and dialed up to the max.
That is an absolutely ludicrous demand, even by the standards of the private rented sector.

That's absolutely bonkers! I thought you were renting through an agency? If so you should be covered by some Scottish law thing that you should've had to sign when you signed up for the flat originally that assures short term leasing or something. I can't remember what it's called exactly but will try to find out for you.

I thought the point of renting was that you didn't have to pull massive lump sums of money out of nowhere to be able to afford it. Am I incorrect?
Anyway, channelling up to full big chap, and I'll see you tomorrow for some soothing pints.

That was a long night.
Letting agency wouldn't budge an inch. Plus they were insisting on getting a work reference but wouldn't take mine as I've worked there for less than 6 months so it was a case of '6 months rent or you're out'. So I've had to go crawling to a family member to ask for a loan so I can pay the rent and owe the money back to them, which is additional stress for them I could do without. So the issue is now resolved, albeit not to my satisfaction.
After I complete my probationary period, I'm fine to move when needed and I think after dealing with this lot I'm inclined to do when the lease comes up for renewal again. I was going out of my mind with worry last night.

Those people should be strung up. Terrible way to screw over renters.

If I may request some channeling for this Wednesday, I would very much appreciate it. Nothing too serious, just an appointment with the cardiologist.
