*sees "Post-apocalyptic", "dark and gritty" and '"Wacky Races" in the same sentence* DC. What? What?! Whaaaat?!
Some things aren't supposed to be reimagined for the Teen Plus set (whatever the heck that is).
What is this need to treat things seriously which aren't meant to be that way?

Fuck me sideways. If someone had mocked this up as a parody of DC Comics I would have dismissed it for being too obvious but it seems to be real. So wacky Races is dark and apocalyptic now? What???!!!

Look what I found! Anyone remember these?? I thought I had a complete set but it turns out I had two copies of Planet of the Warlord instead!

Ah, the Legions of Moros... Our galaxy is a poorer place without them...
Loved those books as a kid, used to have them all once upon a time but those copies went the way these things do several decades back.
Did pick up a US collected edition a couple of years ago which contains most of them (it omits the "Young Legionary" portmanteau book) which means I have most of them once more. Even if between distinctly inferior covers.

Picked up an actual Spirit section from 1942 for research purposes today.
Feels bizarre to be able to read the actual newspaper comic section.
Comics on newsprint - it is the true way.

Recently read 3 books by James Shapiro about Shakespeare's time (1599, Contested Will, 1606). Rollicking good reads that are like diving into fast paced thrillers rather than dry historical stuff. Can't recommend them enough. Very accessible and enjoyable reads. 'Contested Will' in particular covers some of the insane theories over the years about who else could have written the plays: by the time folk are building machines to decipher hidden codes that don't exist I was in stitches. Reminded me a lot of the hysteria/conspiracy theories surrounding Doctor Who Missing Episodes that we have today!
Also read a very good book CRUSOE by Katherine Frank which tries to tie in a factual tale of a real-life chap who was trapped on an island with influences on DeFoe's work. While the connection is somewhat strained it's a very readable book though with a strong hint of melancholy.
Then I read Shatner's book about Nimoy though I had previously read everything in it before from his other books.

It isn't actually terrible.

Are you feeling alright? -Ralph I mean it's not good, but it's not terrible. I like his robot friend and the bit where they show how he was accidently blasted into space was actually funny. I mean yes the title character is crap and the name is a deeply deeply unfunny pun that doesn't work but I've read far worse! I AM SORRY!

Who has stolen our Blueshift?! Imposter! IMPISTRR! I must exterminate! EXTERMINATE! I am the one person who really liked Scrappy Doo and thought the eps he wasn't in were boring. I was genuinely confused when I grew up and discovered I was supposed to hate him.

Also I always felt that Ghostbusters 2 was a far superior film to 1. 2 was more exciting and had the exciting slime river and the canned ghost from McDonalds, 1 was a bit more boring and not as much happened and it was really just setting up 2.

I used to love those mcdonalds polystyrene containers. I liked all the different colours and would order different burgers to get the different colours even if I disliked the burgers. I used to keep trying to make a collection of them under my bed but my mum kept throwing them out.
I also had a very comprehensive collection of Fiendish Feet yoghurt pots, but they got thrown away too without my knowledge. Looking on ebay they are worth actual money now, so it's not just me!!!

I don't know where we go from here. Public confessions of yogurt pot collecting... Macdonalds' boxes... This is madness.
Mind you I did go through a phase of collecting fruit pastille boxes, which is possibly odd in that they were all the same. I had a display of them.
We need an unusual things I genuinely collected thread.

I'm not sure amazing if the right word, but when you have that collecting nature like we all do, it can manifest in some odd ways. Polystyrene boxes is brilliant!

Fiendish Feet were great! They were even mentioned on the cover of an issue of TFUK!
They need to come back. Yoghurt was only exciting when it was Fiendish Feet.

Various cost of living increases (rent, utilities, etc) have come in on yet another pay-cut year so more regular publications need to go. Bye bye, Panini Hulk! Panini X-Men will go when they run out of Bendis issues. Panini Marvel Legends will have to go: don't like Superior Iron Man and they've run out of Remender Cap issues. I lost patience with Panini Avengers during the AXIS pish.
Cutting it down to 2000AD, Judge Dredd Megazine, Panini MWOM, Doctor Who Magazine for periodicals. Can't afford digital comics. The decision to chop Titan DW was made when it switched to the US format size: it just isn't stocked locally that I can find.
Bye bye, Lego comics with polybags!
Thankgoodness we have a decent library service.
