OK, here's the twist. We play with a headmaster head. For reals.
It all started as a throw away comment in Ralph's Stardub ep.64.
I don't know where we'll play it, but is anyone interested in playing in a little knockout tournament?
Format - Double elimination (gives you a second chance if you lose a game). With games lasting 10 minutes, or longer depending on interest.

No, the head is the ball.
If we really wanted to go crazy we could use minicons and micromasters as players. That way everyone has to bring their own team.
Goalies will be difficult, maybe attach them to lollipop sticks. I think they have to be a maximum size to make it fair.
I'll have to bring my video camera so we can record this event as it's going to be epic.
What size should teams be? Just will allow us to have a smaller pitch making it easier to find space to play.

You must use Jumpstarters to do the throw-ins and goal kicks.
And the Throttlebots must have a role to play, surely.

Will missile launchers be allowed?

Missiles - Maybe have a player on the sideline who can fire instead of you taking a flick. If the shot hits a player on the opposing team play returns to you and your flicks are reset (do you normally have a maximum 3/4 flicks in Subbuteo? I can't remember). Also your opponent can't use the player hit on their next go. If you hit one of your own players, your opponent gets 6 flicks on their next go, just to add some element of risk to it to stop it being abused.
Hrm. Is this not in danger of becoming Bloodbowl instead of Subbuteo?
Throttlebots may be too big.
Oooh, here's an idea... We all have to make teams up from buying our 5 players from dealers at the event. Or will that get too expensive? What are the prices like for loose micromasters/minicons?? Are they readily available?

Micromasters are generally a quid each (I am selling some in the selling forum, wink wink), Minicons depends, but you can generally get a pile dirt cheap.
Might be more fun to deco up a team in advance! We'd need a standard wobbly base to put them on!

This actually sounds fun
would Legends Classes and Minibots be too big to play?

I imagine Minibots would be too heavy for the wobbly bases, depending on the size used. Legends likewise, plus the height would tip them over.
Once we know what we are using for bases, I guess it will be easier. Can you buy blank Subbuteo bases?

How about one of those miniature tabletop pool tables that can be brought in certain gadget shops?

Nah all you need is a big bit of hardboard!
I bet we could set something up in one of the rooms if we ask nicely, they let people submit events last year!

Will there not just be a table we can set up on? Just stick the two goals at either end. I have a cork table football ball that will work fine on pretty much any surface if using a KO Cerebros head as a ball proves a little funky.
I don't even think we need the felt playing surface.
So we need- 2xGoals (Or more if we want 2+ games at once) KO Cerebros head (Ralph to provide if he's happy) Backup ball if Cerebros really doesn't work out Cheap plastic trophy for the winner Lollipop sticks (eBay has them cheap) and some way to attach figure to them.
Hrm.

Another rule - Because the figures will be easier to flick when in Alt mode (assuming they'll have wheels) you should get less flicks. Also, all transforming must be done at start of your turn.

I think it is best to have as few rules as possible or it will get way too complicated.

OK, so missiles are allowed, but only if when a player fires them they make "PEW PEW PEW!!!" noises.
Also, allowed by opposing team instead of a defensive flick... if they hit the ball or the player that last touched the ball they get possession.

AHa ahe ahhoo hee haa ha hoo.
I've had a rethink. I think this is only going to work with vehicles in alt mode, other wise "players" are just going to fall over. It'll be like when they played football with Aygos on Top Gear.

Yes.
Allowable transformers, not that you'd want to use them all...
Minibots Minispies Cassettes Headmaster Partners Targetmaster Partners Powermaster Partners Micromasters Gobots WST Minicons Legends
Anyone think of anything else?

How about those small TF figures that were released in packs of five or something like that a few years ago? I can't remember the name of them but I don't think they transformed.

Do you mean the diecast 3" Titaniums or the Attacktix?? I don't think either have got enough movement to make it possible, but no reason why they can't be included if you really wanted to.

I was thinking of the 3" Titaniums but they were sold individually though now that I think of it and it was the Attacktix that were sold in teams.

Another one to add - Takara Tomy Robo-Q. I've just ordered Prime and Bumblebee as they're cheap at HLJ.

Put the ideas down in writing properly guys and work out what you need in terms of time etc and once I get the Alternative Programme Room booking form up on the website, I can work it all out and slot you into the convention as an official competition.

Most stuff that gets booked into the Alternative Programme Room is run separately to the convention itself so it's out of our control (although it does need to be "supervised" by one of our volunteers) so we wouldn't provide prizes of any kind.
Anything that runs in other rooms are either:-
1. Official convention activities run and completely controlled by Auto Assembly 2. "third party" events booked into convention rooms run by other people but arranged as part of the event and added to our schedule, pretty much like the various forum meets last year.
