As you know I've been buying in a lot of the early Tomart issues I was missing and there's lots of Playmats Trek in there. That was a good line until the poo Generations figures, the 1701 series and producing figures an inch taller killed it.

What's the best rang of Star Trek toys then? Are there figs from the original series? And if so, what size are they? (not sure if I'd go for 6 inch in order to fight Marvel Legends, or 3 3/4 inch to fight MP TFs and Clone Troopers! Oh gosh!)

I'll be watching to see if these new figures from Playmates turn out to be good or not, because it could explain the recent poor treatment of the TMNT Franchise if all the attention and focus went into this. It would be sad to see any more products head down the Cowabunga Carl van territory (and as Nick said, TRU can;t shift those things.).
If this upcoming Trek line and the Terminator stuff both end up bad, it will show that Playmates have really plummeted in general and not just with TMNT.
Basically, I have little faith in Playmates at the moment. I hope Trekkies get treated better.

The characters look very unhappy to be turned into plastic.

Playmates have gotten lazy in general.

Hmm. Could have been better, but not too bad; they seem to be placed somewhere between realism and the cartoonish sculpting of their 1990s Trek figures. I do like the Scotty figure, it's like something out of some "Shaun of the Dead: ten years later" comic. The bridge is impressive.
I actually placed my order for Trek stock a few days ago. I didn't go overboard, ordering the 3.75" figures with a small number of the playsets, role play and vehicles, not bothering with the 6" and 12" figures; they're mostly due in May, same as the Revenge of the Fallen toys, so I couldn't allocate too much of the budget to them.

Oh! I like the Bridge playset! Do they still call 'em playsets?

The pictured figures are 3.75" and 12" (those with the cloth garments). There is also a 6" range. The bridge playset is for the 3.75" figures; the floor piece that was displayed at Toy Fair was different to that pictured, being a folded vinyl mat rather than a flat piece. There are nice spaceships, at least one small vehicle for the 6" figures and a role play series. Of the role play, there is a phaser that looks hideous (cheap chromed plastic tat), though the deluxe version is better (die cast with lights and sounds); there is a tricorder and communicator, of which I thought one was nice and one was in-between the nice one and the phaser; there is also a utility belt to hold all three roleplay toys.

FPG had a big display of the new Star Trek toys today. They...to be honest they look like Poundland specials and I'm being serious. The figures have poor paint apps, poor articulation and look they will break on the card. The Enterprise ship is light as a feather. The phaser looks really cheap.
Worst of all is the Bridge Playset, which was displayed out of package. The package boasts it comes with a 'playmat'!. Well, it needs a playmat. The playmat is the floor of the Bridge. Or rather, it is a piece of very thin plastic...well napkin. It had been taped to the shop floor to stop it rolling up. The actual Bridge itself is not a full Bridge. It contains only bits of the Bridge sitting on top of the mat and is mostly empty. Some of the plastic was clearly chipped/broken. The viewscreen card picture seemed ill-fitted for the viewscreen frame. The set comes with one figure which looks like it would break if ever played with. It beggers belief this is a toy from 2009.
A shoddier toy launch line-up I have not seen in quite some time. The line has 'cheap disposable we'll-maybe-get-3-waves' written all over it.

The role play toys have actually been selling well for me. (The phasers were the first to go, despite being the worst of the three.) Not so for the figures, though - so far I've sold four figures from three cases (12 figures per case). Uhura's sold out. Hopefully, I'll sell more after the film comes out this week.

The Star Trek figures arrived in the local ASDA* today (half-price of RRP, ouch). There are no Bridge bits included, only stands for the figures.
According to our very own Kayevcee, using his advanced toyshop knowledge, the figures with Bridge parts are wave 2.

Asda were selling off their remaining Star Trek figures at 89p each ! Walked off with Kirk & Scotty.
If anyone see the uniformed versions of McCoy, Spock, Sulu, Chekov or Uhura OR the original Spock at that price I'll gladly give them a home.
Similarly if anyone wants a Scotty, Kirk or cadet figure, then yell.

In my box from BBTS yesterday I receieved the Mattel versions of the refitted Enterprise, the Enterprise-D and the Reliant. I can't stop playing with the Reliant and turning it upside down. Now I know it should have been that was up all along it looks so much better. And the D does the saucer seperation ! If you're tempted BBTS has them for $9.79, $8 & $5 respectively which is far better than the £18 model zone in Kingston was asking.

My nearest Poundstretcher was trying to shift them for 99p a week or so back. I will check in when I can and have a look.
