Sadly, it's still par for the course with current kids tv shows.

Yeah it is, still with the amazon rate it still comes in at less than twenty quid for the majority of a season.

Could one of you knowledgeable and/or handsome Animateders point me to an online outlet selling the first volume of the Animated R2 DVDs, please?

Is that just the 3-part "Pilot" episodes? Do the volumes 2, 3, and 4 you posted in the top follow directly from that?
The Internet doesn't seem to help (hence my confusion) as it keeps listing episodes from the 1984 Transformers series.

I know i asked that question on one forum a few months back - or maybe last year. You are on about those 2 first DVD set which happen to have different covers but the back show the same clips from the pilot.
I think someone said one is just the 3 parter only & the other may have #1-4 on it??
Anybody got them both & which one is which?
Transformers the animated movie Optimus in top left.
is this one ep 1-3
Animated series 1 v1 Optimus/Bumblebee on cover - contains above & with ep4

Today I saw the Animated DVD's for the first time ever in HMV, and 'Transform And Roll Out' and Volume One; 'Blast From The Past' were both going for a fiver. I picked them both up, and figured if they end up being the same thing in different packages I can just give one to my brother as a gift.
Sadly for him, this is not the case. The Volume One DVD does NOT contain the episodes featured on 'Transform and Roll Out', and actually begins with 'Home Is Where The Spark Is'.
So anyone who was holding off on buying these for fear of accidenatlly picking up duplicates, you can now go for it safe in the knowledge that every single TransFormers Animated DVD has entirely unique contents from one another.

so pilot is on the first one - ever though both have the same pictures on the rear. then v 1-3 have the whole series 1 then v4 onwards are series 2. They could have used other images for the v1 - to avoid confusion.

They could have used other images for the v1 - to avoid confusion. Pretty much. 'Transform And Roll Out' contains episodes 1-3 (the entirety of that tale) and two shorts. Volume One contains episodes 4-7 (Home Is Where The Spark Is, Total Meltdown, Blast From The Past and The Thrill of The Hunt). I live nowhere near a TRU, so I'll see how cheap the next volumes are online myself.

I too popped into HMV and got the Animated DVDs! Hooray for actual brick and mortar shops that actually have an idea of what's on a DVD!

I have finally got around to watching my Animated DVDs. Up to Along Came A Spider so far. Pretty good stuff so far.
And in Nanosec, the Autobots age the villain on purpose?! Harsh.

I'm genuinely curious about this, but is trying to source a R2 release of a DVD still an issue? Aren't multi region players common and cheap enough not to worry about stuff like this. I'd firmly vote for just importing the R1 boxsets. It's easy enough.

Well not everyone has access to R1 players. I don't.

I don't have a DVD player at all anymore.
I prefer R2, as I pass down watched DVDs to friends and family and they would get confused with anything non-R2.

I could easily buy in the R1's, but I prefer to support the market over here. Otherwise it might affect distribution of related items.

But then you're supporting their release tactics of single volume issues.

Well, speaking only for myself, I'd have to buy a DVD player and a TV (as my laptop won't play other regions without locking) just to view R1 discs, which would be prohibitively expensive.

Yeah, I only mean in response to Kingoji, it's a bit of a double edged sword - you want to support Animated in the UK (I assume, tell me to shut up, if I'm putting words in your mouth) but at the same time by going along with their distribution policies, you're sending out tacit agreement that single volume dvds are a good concept. Having said that, I suppose they are for kids (or parents) who might not really want the whole show but just want a dvd to stick on every now and then. If I had to go to all the extra effort of sourcing a region 1 player and getting other equipment I probably wouldn't bother either, but I already have all the necessary components. I'm a bit lucky too that I was in America in the summer so was able to pick up Animated and the complete Energon and Cybertron as if I was just popping down the shops. But having said that, Transformers is the only show I've gone to the effort of making sure I get the best release for for about 5 years. (this is a lot more than I intended to type when I started this post!)

Single volume releases for kids shows does annoy me. It's a silly holdover from VHS release patterns.

Naturally I would prefer a full series set, but this is better than nothing.
