Week 20 begins with the sad news that former Black Sabbath guitarist and all-around bad mastard Ronnie James Dio is now rocking the pearly gates. In tribute, please enjoy the following track:

I manned up last week and informed the Boss while we relocated the lab that I was looking around for more career oriented opportunities. It was scary but he appreciated the heads up. Now to actually get another job before the Boss decides to have another fit of pique and just hire someone new straight away. Fortunately he's off in Wales for the next three weeks, so I have at least a month lead time.

Hopefully that'll be a weight off your mind now, Rachel. It's best to have everything out in the open*.
*Shockprowl need not comment on that remark.

Just spent a few days away with the parentals in the Gower Peninsula (SW Wales), which was very nice and gave me a chance to read the first 150 pages of the excellent tome of Herodotus, generously provided by my Scottish friends on the Hub.

The pub quiz last night was a complete success with my team toppling the champions of the previous 10+ weeks by only one point.
Today I got into a discussion with somebody at work who thought that I wasn't normal when I told him that I like watching old TV shows and old films. He's of the opinion that if you don't like all of todays stuff but like the shows and films of yesteryear then you are not of a sane mind. From what I gather he particularly likes the American comedy films like American Pie and other such stuff that I don't find remotely funny. Never mind, everyone is different I suppose.

The warehouse where I currently work seemed to be staffed with (very slightly) generous gaffers today. There was a lot of multipacks of Buxton spring water lying around that had been damaged in transit (if the packaging is damaged it can't be sold in that condition) and so they allowed the workers to take home a multipack each. The multipacks consisted of 24 bottles of water approx the same size as a bottle of coke and was heavy - very heavy! So, here I was walking about two miles to the nearest bus stop in hot weather carrying a heavy multipack of water that didn't want to keep the individual bottles inside the packaging. I largely managed to keep the bottles in check until I got to the bus stop before three of them tried to make a break for freedom as I stopped the bus.
Unsurprisingly, I was glad to get home.

With the England 18 to 21 girls netball team? With my reputation? Oh well. Hallo Sportsfans! Construction of the 2nd shed goes well, apart from having to do inconvenient things like go to work and sleep afterwards and stuff. Ground is levelled, and half the shed parts are painted. Errection shall hopefully be on Friday (what better way to spend ones 5th anniversary?!?! Pleasingly Mrs Shockers is all for it!). After it is errected, nothing will be able to stop me. Can't remember if I mentioned or not catching most of the film Scanners at work the other night shift. Excellent film! Haven't seen it for years. A tad weird watching it in the small our, alone on stand-by at a quiet satelite station! I got a bit scared!

Good luck with the garden shed. Hopefully it will *stay* erect. After feeling vaguely accomplished with telling the Boss about my plans, he sent me a terse and somewhat pissy email on Monday recounting the discussion and noting that he thought my timing was inappropriate, and getting shirty that the New Guy also heard this announcement. Given that New Guy and the Boss were practically tied to each other all week, I don't know how I would avoid it. Plus Boss would have turned around and told him anyway. I guess it's all a control issue. So I appear to flubbed my first ever attempt at telling an employer that I'm looking elsewhere. Now to find a job before I get actively fired.

Sorry to hear about that Dave.
My trip up to work today didn't go too well. I set out of the house ten minutes before the bus was due to arrive and watched it drive past me less than two minutes later which I found odd. I checked on the timetable and that bus seemed to be in between services. It was ten minutes late for the 6.55 bus but ten minutes early for the 7.15 bus. It turned out that it was the 7.15 bus that had come far too lively and so I had to wait for the 7.25 bus which came five minutes late. So, I reached the drop-off point at 7.35 but still had a 30 minute walk ahead of me to fit into 25 minutes before I started work. I ran most of the way and dragged myself into work bang on time at 8.00.

Getting ready for the big errection tmw. Been taking my vitamins.
Can't remember if I've mentioned this already, but Mrs Shocker informs me that she is fairly certain that the 5th wedding anniversary is wood. So what better way to spend it than putting up a wooden shed?!
Also, I've inadvertantly enrolled Piglet to take part in some kind of performance, on stage, with a small group of like aged children, for what apparently is a performance of The Magic Flute. Apparently the children are going to dance around like animals. This is what happens when I go out with the child without Mrs Shockprowl. Piglet is going to be a cat, which is fine, 'cos Piglet, these days, always wants to be a cat, and infact refers to herself as 'The Cat'. She did very well at the dancing around bit, despite being constantly distracted by a hole in the hall ceiling.

Hmm, missed the leather year, damn it.
Funny it goes up and up, every increasing in value, 'till you get to, Oak, and then, Granite. Now I know graite is espensive, but it's not as 'showy' as Emerald or Gold.

MY ERRECTION IS UP!!!!! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!
It is strong and true, absolutely rock solid. My errection will never come down! Much harder than I feared to get it up though, didn't get some of the dimensions right of the hole it had to fill. But with a bit of pushing and shoving and good deal of sweat, we did it! HUZZZZAAAGH!!!!!!!

It's mad, we all thought Dio would go the way of the Rolling Stones and never stop playing.

It's been a nice day today so I decided this morning to take a walk around this park/nature reserve in my village. On a nice day its a wonderful place to kill a few hours. There are about three lakes in it and many trees and shrubbery and on the lakes live waterfowl such as swans, ducks, coots and grebes. I spent about ten or so minutes today watching a mother duck swimming around one of the lakes with four young ducklings in tow.

Oh, poor show, chaps.I've spent most of the day gardening, and while the match was on I could tell the score by the cheers and groans coming from the livings rooms of nearby houses. Martin

Bottles of mineral water are so underrated especially in this weather. I drunk one bottle this morning and so far I've had another two bottles within the past hour with a craving for another one anytime soon!

They used to do that a lot, and that is why when I was at high school I used to claim to support Cardiff City whenever anyone asked. (Despite not actually having any interest in football and much prefering Calvinball when it comes to sport - not supporting any team was not a valid answer to the question, apparently everyone in the world supports a football team.) Today was extremely warm up here. I thought that it was a nice day for a walk though, so I took the train through to Linlithgow and walked back the ten or so miles between there and the Falkirk Wheel over the course of the day. Stopped off to eat my lunch and watch people go wander past at a spot partway between Linlithgow and Polmont. It was a thoroughly enjoyable way to spend a very sunny day, but I started to realise that perhaps I had been a little bit ambitious when it occured to me that of all the ducks along the canal the only one I had noticed swimming was the one with the somewhat maniacal look to it. All the others were hunkered down in shadow trying to sleep and waiting for the heat to dissipate.... Karl
