Only 2 and a half years 'till New Horizons reaches Pluto. I'm so excited about it.
Fascinating about Vista. When does the Dawn probe reach Ceres?

Patrick Moore has passed away. This is truely sad. He died peacefully at home aged 89.

He wasn't perfect (who is?), but he did great service to society in his chosen field and is a loss to be mourned. Martin

I don't know if it's this news or if I'm just hving one of those days, but this is genuinly distressing news to me. The more I think about it, the closer to tears I get.

Yes I'm very sad. Patrick Moore has just always been there, in my life, since I was a small child. Like so so many others he was the one who first spiked my interest in astronomy. I'm grateful for his life, and the wonderful effect he's had on my life and interests.

A sad, sad lost. He was one of those people who really inspired so many (including me)to look up at the wonders of the vast universe around them. He will be much missed.

I think that may count as the furthest a man-made instrument has traveled to observe a transit of venus. There is something quite humbling about that. Karl

Possibly 17 billion Earth-like planets. Wow. There's got to be intelligent life out there with all those to choose from.

Maybe.... it would be nice.... 'Got to' is a little too far to extrapolate from our sample number of one when it comes to life, intelligent or otherwise.
