I did try out the slider and it basically made things in the distance get further away. Spooky.

Ooo my 3DS has entered the "preparing for dispatch and cannot be cancelled" phase. I had given up tracking the various price changes but I see it is now £187 Looking forward to this. ;D

Quick note, if anyone's thinking of picking one up, apparently Tesco have them at £175
Anyway, mine arrived from Amazon yesterday and it's rather good. Found the AR games to be better than I expected and the environment warping is an impressive effect. Tried out the character cards too which looked good but I don't see me using them much in the future. The built-in Faceraiders is a lot of fun. Updated my system straight away to get the 3D video which is good for showing people what the thing can do.
Took some 3D photos and if taken in natural lighting they look good, otherwise it's a bit hit and miss.
Game-wise I got Pilotwings and Street Fighter, both of which are decent games with good 3D effect - though it's more noticeable with Pilotwings. Had a bit of trouble with the circlepad at first as I had to really push for top-right but it seems OK now.

I've got mine and I'm very impressed with the 3D. My friend code is:

Add me!
I got my first hit on Street Pass today! Not too exciting as it was just one of the guys at work who got his today. It was still quite amusing as my 3DS was in my jacket pocket on the coat rack and he was on the other side of the office.
I'm going to wander around some game shops tomorrow to see if I can get more. I really like these features but they don't tend to work in the UK. I wandered around central London with Nintendogs on bark mode shortly its release and got no hits. Hopefully the fact that Street Pass doesn't require the game to be loaded might lead to more success.

It's alright, Martin. I don't understand either.
I have to admit, I am extremely interested in how '3D without glasses' looks, but I have to yet to find a display model in a shop to have a look at.

It's a good effect, but because you can only view the screens face on, I don't think there's much scope for actually using the 3D to create any new game mechanics (such as being able to hide objects behind others in the 3D world and encourage the user to move their head to view behind). This sort of thing is done in the Augmented Reality game I demo'd, but you had to move the entire system behind the virtual object, so had nothing to do with 3D at all.

The Telegraph's story is suspiciously similar to the Sun's, oh how standards are dropping. What a load of rubbish too!

I have not seen one single model on display. This means this thing is utterly awesome and selling out fast or utter shit and shops don't want folk to try before they buy. I have no idea.
I would never buy one. The price of video games is idiotic. But I am damn curious to see 3D without glasses!

To be fair I can't recall the last time I saw a display model for a portable machine. That said, Game are apparently going to start having them in case people are worried about the EVIL EYE DEATH!!! they've been reading about in the papers. Meanwhile Pocket Gamer have done a test to see how reading 'The Sun' compares to playing a 3DS.

I've seen every other portable Nintendo system on display at release which is why I thought it odd not to see any 3DS' on display.

I suspect your nearest branch of TRU will have one available to try out, should anyone have the urge.

I suppose the best thing you can do is just keep sticking your head in Game and/or Gamestation if you happen to be passing. HMV is also a possibility.

Most Games and Gamestations will have store units behind the counter (I've streetpassed a lot of these). Ask the nice people to have a butchers. There's a nice video that demoes the 3d very well. Also I think you'd especially like the AR games Ralph.
I've had quite a bit of luck with streetpass. Got 6 hits today and I'm nearly finished the quest. To explain how it works your 3DS communicates wirelessly with other 3DSs in range. It does this while it's on and you are playing games, but also when you put it into sleep mode.
So the idea is you walk around with your 3DS in your pocket or bag or whatever, and as you walk past people who also have 3DSs you link up and swap some data. By default you exchange your Mii (an avatar of yourself). The Miis you get bring pieces for a puzzle game, but you can also send them into a dungeon to battle ghosts and demons. Some games can also swap data like this.
Now I find this feature on of the most fascinating about the 3DS, probably above the 3d. I just love the idea I'm walking past other people with 3DSs and we swap data without ever knowing who each other is. I keep eying up strangers trying to guess if they'll be the ones I'm sending to their certain doom in the dungeon later that day (like the 6 hapless souls I passed today).

Found out today that the 3DS is having a price cut worldwide 12th August. UK price is "down to retailers" but from what I read it's expected to be no more than £150-160. As this might lead to early adopters frowning a lot, Nintendo are giving us 20 Virtual Console games off the eShop for free. You just need to have connected to the shop once before 11th August. More info here. The freebies will be made up of 10 NES and 10 Game Boy Advance games. Five of each have been announced so far: NES: Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong Jr., Balloon Fight, Ice Climber and The Legend of Zelda GBA: Yoshi’s Island (SMA3), Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Metroid Fusion, WarioWare Inc.: Minigame Mania and Mario vs. Donkey Kong Interestingly whilst the NES games will later be available for new owners to purchase "Nintendo currently has no plans to make these [GBA] games available to the general public on Nintendo 3DS in the future".

Game have cut the price of their 3DS range. Street Fighter and a few others I can't recall are selling for £15-16 at the moment.

Ooo, may have to stick my head in game when I get the chance.
That said I haven't got around to playing Ocarina yet. Obviously I've played the non-3D version on N64/Gamecube but since it popped through my letter box a combination of Link's Awakening and just being busy in general has meant it has stayed in its case.
Anyway I'm looking forward to my VC freebies: a decent line-up so far (GBA more than NES). I wonder what the other ten will be.

I am tempted by the 3DS, but not at that price, especially given the cost of the games. Maybe in a few years, like I did with the DS.

The price cut has officially begun and there's quite a range. Lowest price for the machine is £115 from Tesco and Amazon but others are doing deals with games.
