After writing away during the week, the end part of week 47 is a bit of blur. I remember feeling zombie-like but that's about it. I keep getting excited by the phone going as I think that maybe, just maybe someone wants to give me money. But no, it's just my brother wanting to borrow it.
Anyway I'm hoping for good news this week.

Writer's block continues. We're down to the wire tomorrow. First all-nighter on an essay since 1999 coming this Tuesday. I have already purchased the necessary Big Bottle of Coke for the caffeine fix that will be required to keep me awake.
I haven't had trouble like this when trying to write something in my entire life. I don't know what's wrong. I am going to try reading some Terry Pratchett and having an early night tonight to see if that will help.

Did it help, Ralph? Did it?!
I've just come back to work after 4 lovely days off where i watched Beast Machines and saw John Barrowman. My last day is on Thursday, where i leave for newer pastures.
I have a Scotch pie in the fridge awaiting a layer of hot beans as soon as i get it. Magic.

Yeah, twisted my ankle Saturday lunchtime getting a stricken model car (it rolled 15yds and didn't break) out of the path of a big proper car.
My foot went from under me, toes too close to shin. I pulled a muscle just above the heel and twisted it in the usual outside ankle bone manner.
Made a nice loud pop.
Weekend ruined. No racing on Sunday, no shopping with nice lady on Saturday afternoon. No cleaning of cars or visiting parents or food shopping.
I had Monday off but back today. I think I came back too early as it's starting to get painful again.
Elliott.

Well and truly infected with the Space Lurgy here.
I was up half the night feeling like someone had surgically implanted a life raft inside my head and had just pulled the cord to inflate it. My dad, exhibiting similar symptoms, described it as "feeling like my eyes were being pushed out of my head". I turned up late to my lecture, sat in a daze through what might have been an important meeting (I'm honestly not sure, I was so out of it) and just tidied up and went home. I'm not in a fit state to be handling solutions that are toxic by inhalation and skin exposure.

I'm not in a fit state to be handling solutions that are toxic by inhalation and skin exposure. Sounds like you might already have inhaled a few of them! I hope the life raft in your head deflates soon, that Elliott's ankle pops back, and that Ralph gets his inner writer unblocked. Martin

Martin- nah, if I was suffering the toxic effects of inhaling organic solvents, there's no way my dad could have the same symptoms unless he's been huffing my lab coat. In my locker at university. Besides- we have to look up the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) online for each chemical we use, and everyone is acutely aware of the risks of what they're handling. I take every possible precaution- everything stays corked when it's not in the fume cupboard.
One of my solvents (hexane) used to be considered "safe if smelly", until a couple of years ago when new advances in the understanding of metabolic breakdown of substances in the human body discovered that it mutates your sperm if you breathe enough of it in and causes birth defects. Whoops. They don't use it so much in the first year labs any more.

Oh God. It's 8.15pm ish I think. I've been working on this essay since 9am. Oh God. I don't know who I am anymore. I...just don't know. Oh God. The Wizard of Oz bit is great, I think. I have referenced Beaker from the Muppet Show. Whether this will prove to be an insanely clever bit of writing or merely insane...I just don't know. But I think he fits. I am sure no-one has referenced Beaker in a counselling essay before.
After carefully examining Carl Rogers' necessary and sufficient conditions for therapeutic personality growth, 'Unconditional Positive Regard: My Personal Journey of Discovery' is the title I came up with. By the time I'm done I may have to re-name it 'ROLPH BAINES GOES TO HELL'.
Oh God. When did I last eat. I don't know.

I think it I would indeed give you fair odds that no-one has referenced Beaker in a counselling essay before Ralph. I am channelling for a successful outcome of the essay writing. I hope that your various physical ailments ease soon Nick and Elliott. A liferaft in the head sounds rather.....constricting, and I remember a period in my youth when tendon trouble led me to go over on my ankle several times. The sounds an ankle makes when it goes out of position is extremely disconcerting.
I'm having a reasonably good evening - which is a relief after a particularly poor morning. In the office at 8.15 but feeling like the walking dead until about lunchtime. Think it is an quiet night for me and try to recharge the batteries for tomorrow.

Ralph- good to know the writer's block has crumbled under the full power of Beaker.
I fully support 'ROLPH BAINES GOES TO HELL' as the official Hub title for the paper.

that title would blow me away it shows that the writer has dug into the depths of his soul to examine the topic, to understnad the pain involved in the topic and the confusion attached to the issue PS - for the Trancer lovers out there I did reference Jack Deth in a Shakespere essay once - I did not score high

I wish everyone, good physical and mental health, failing that, more caffeine.
I've been driving with the twisted ankle. Hard braking is a bit painful. The colour has come back, sadly it's yellow and purple.
Joy.

If I can put weight on it, it's OK isn't it? It just hurts the muscles if I try to move my weight. No lifting of heavy fuel cells for me today.
I'm thankful I've got pretty good leg strength.
I couldn't stop driving MiniKa. It'd kill me. He's Eyutsspecialboy (surrogate son - I blame my ex-girlfriend)

Elliot - I'd have said that it might be worth strapping it up so that you don't put any extra stress on it than you can avoid. But unless you drive an automatic that might force a choice between imobilising the ankle and driving the veh-hikle. Rolph Baine - we welcome you back amongst us after your journey into the realms of Niffelheim! We salute your victory! Karl

Now obviously your sensorary system works better than mine does but I walked on a cracked bone in my ankle for 6 weeks once. And if you've damaged certain muscles it might be worth seeing what can be done to avoid stretching them and damaging them further. If it hurts braking you probably aught not to be driving ! Bad sign. That's what did for me. Might sound over the top but better to be safe than sorry I think.

www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/articles/article.aspx?articleId=345§ionId=11It's not a definitive answer, but I think I'm doing an OK job of looking after it. It's getting some movement. On my feet at work was probably too much on Tuesday. Bracing is a second step and I can't feel any pain beyond the muscles. I'm worried about weakening my ankle what with the cycling I'm doing, but it's got to be pretty strong anyway.

I would advise clicking on one of the helpful links at the top of the page, which at the moment are linking to ankle pain sites.
Although I'm sure by the time someone reads this it'll be back to linking to sausages and eggs from Lincolnshire farms.
Edit: On noes, i've jinxed it with my sausage talk. I should have left it well alone, and saved my sausage talk for the sausages thread.

I'd have made it to the local surgery today, if I hadn't texted Mum about my ankle. Dad came round within two hours and we were at the Hospital in Ascot by 1pm. The nice nurses in the minor injuries unit checked out the X-rays and told me nothing was broken, but from the bruising, I had ligament damage above my heel.
I'm OK to go to work and drive, but I must do light tasks at work and not do as much walking about as normal. Ultimately, what I was doing at work on Tuesday but with the added support from the tubigrip that I now sport. The tubigrip is giving my tortured muscles a rest and holding the bulk of the pain at bay.
It'll be around four weeks until I'm fully healed. So no cycling or arsing around.
Good news.
I had a class day, talking to Dad, I haven't seen him in a while.

I've spent the last few nights photoshopping pictures from a lesbian wedding for my brother (he's branching out into wedding photography, so if you're getting hitched, drop me a line... he's ace and cheaper than your usual). Anyway the photos look good but I've gone completely boss-eyed. Cowboy hats at a wedding, though. That's brilliant. Mx

I'm planning on sombreros, myself.
Were the hats pink and covered in sequins? In which case, they were probably left over from the hen night.
