I like Binaltechs. They remind me of what MP felt like before we got to the MP10 reboot. Remember transforming Smokescreen for the first time and being absolutely blown away. That was nearly twenty years ago now.

Why do you have to say it like that Monsieur Pins?

Because you now want to buy all of them :)
Lovely car modes! Better than the MP cars.
I remember when we were at the point of having Binaltech Smokescreen and MP01. That felt like owning proper grown up Transformers.

Very true. It was 18. But I was going for the 'good old days' generalisation.

Maybe 17. Smokescreen was Sept 2003 in Japan. Can't remember now how I got my one. Might have been Epic Heroes in Edgeware.

That felt like owning proper grown up Transformers. That's a really good way of putting it. Even though you could argue that we've had more poseable toys since with more intricate transformations, and with greater cartoon accuracy, there was something about the early Alternators/Binaltech and MP-01 that made them feel like... yeah, THE next thing, in a way that nothing else has since. "Grown up" is a good way of putting it.

Bought quite a few of the early ones, bailed after Windcharger, sold them and not been tempted to rebuy.... till I started looking this week

I recall being tremendously excited by Binaltech/Alternators initially. I got Smokescreen and thought it was fantastic. Then my interest quickly died when the others had duff robot modes and/or were a pain in the ass to transform.
Let us never talk of Ravage or Shockwave.

I wanted that one (and the blue Prowl) badly.
I'd be eager for a classics scaled Red Jazz (there are enough choices now), but I feel it wouldn't work as well. Feels like that would be preferable to have a new head and be a different character.
However, please give me Kingdom Jazz in Yellow.

Grimjack was lovely in robot mode, and dispite being an ugly car, worked well (for Grimlock at least). But that transformation was awful.

There have been some terrible conversion sequences since, but that Grimlock/Wheeljack mold was a trailblazer in being absolutely terrible. He's certainly on the "never again" list...

Alternators blew my mind back in the day. ("Back in the day"....?!)
Superb Transformers toys. Definitely part of the linage that have taken us -weeping and begging- to the Holly Grail of MPish Generations Transformers toys.

I've actually got most of my Alternators in a box ready to be moved on to parts unknown, be they ToyFu or Ebay.
Been sitting there for over a year...

It is done! The BT Alert I received from the splendid Nick is now who he should be, who the mold was meant to be for! PROWL!!!! Swapped heads with my Alternator Prowl, leaving my BinalTech Prowl intact 'cos I do love this fig and he continues to have pride and place in my Prowl collection. Can Lambor/Sideswipe`s head be swapped with Alternator Prowl to keep Red Alert and Sideswipe traditionally having the same heads?

Err, I never attempted the swap you're describing, but I don't recall having too many problems swapping heads. Maybe they're all the same size...?
