If I see this in a shop I may give it a look, but that's unlikely as it's an IDW trade.

Digest popped through the door today.
Four chapters and four artists give the book a little bit of a disjointed feel. The art by E.J. Su on 1 and Joe St. Pierre on 4 being the best.
Story is in all honesty pretty slight, and it feels like it could have been done in the Movieverse rather than giving Prime it's own indentity.

So is Prime a seperate thing from the Movieverse then?

It is, but it's deliberately made to be sort-of-movie-ish.

Ah right. I ask because Hasbro are doing such an oblique job of promoting the show they've failed to communicate what it's about. I saw the Bumblebee design and had assumed it was a movie show.
I'll have a look at the book if I see it in a shop. Given the recent quality of IDW comics I wasn't willing to order an OGN sight unseen.

This show is supposed to be the One Canon for the next few years, so it's pretty mental that Hasbro doesn't promote it more.
Extra weird, toys won't be out for the first year. That's really weird.

I didn't even realise that the OGN was out, I've heard nothing on it anywhere!!

This show is supposed to be the One Canon for the next few years, so it's pretty mental that Hasbro doesn't promote it more. Well, as they don't actually appear to have a completed show at the moment to promote it is perhaps just as well. That said, even if they aren't close to completing something airable they could do with doing something to establish some kind of awareness that it will be coming in due course. That said, at this stage they would be better off holding their fire and using the tail-out of the movie promotional campaign to launch Prime next year sometime. Unless they intended that to be the year that the next movies line was their primary effort, leaving Prime toys to take over once the show was established a bit. Karl

I read Andy's copy. I honestly can't think of anything interesting to say about it.

I liked the interplay between Cliffjumper and Arcee. In fact, it read like a Beast Wars story for some reason.

I have also read Andy's copy of this. It felt like it was assembled on the Chinese Takeaway school of assembly - one from column A (Movie-style aesthetics), one from Column B (backstory similar to War for Cybertron game) and serve in disposable container.
I read it in very few minutes, and found it extremely unsatisfying.

I liked the interplay between Cliffjumper and Arcee. In fact, it read like a Beast Wars story for some reason. I agree. It reminded me of the late 90s Botcon BW stories. I was surprised that the story had been written as a series of 'chapters' that each ended in a cliffhanger. I wonder if IDW will reprint it as a monthly/fortnightly comic when the toy line is launched.

I read Andy's copy of the original release. It certainly didn't make me want to own it - it was a quick enough read in that format, I dread to think what it would be like as individual issues.

I suspect that IDW are attempting to appeal to two markets with this comic. The smaller paperback is a gift to the core fan community who are familiar with the Transformer mythos and want to read a story set in the new continuity, while the fortnightly comic is aimed at a younger audience who were introduced to Transformers through the movie line and want to read about the new cool TV series. I would bet good money (a whole 2p) that, if IDW had released the comic in monthly form from the start, the forums would have been filled with bitter complaints from people who bought the first issue, decided that the story was too simplistic, and dropped the comic entirely. In this form, IDW get to sell the same comic to different audiences, without alienating one or the other.
Like Aesir, I bought the smaller paperback and found the variable pacing to be a little weird. However, it works reasonably well in monthly form (with the exception of #1, which was v.v. slow). There's a wonderful pulpy, early Marvel feel to the story - it starts with a dramatic event, tells a bit of story and ends with something dramatic. The artwork also benefits considerably from being presented on a larger page.

I hate screencap comics like the plague. It might be an actual drawn out version of the "movie" rather than screencaps

I saw the new digest in FP today. To the surprise of no-one it's a screengrab book. And a poor one too: the images are rather dark and clearly not HD captures either. Avoid.
