Hot Rod, Ultra Magnus, Kup, Arcee, Galvatron. What have all of these Spotlight characters got in common?
Yep. They all debuted in the original Transformers movie. With the idea of a Wheelie Spotlight being bandied about can we expect Spotlights of Blurr, Springer, Scourge, Cyclonus and Unicron to also surface in due course?

We can't for Unicron, but I wouldn't mind seeing more Springer.
Also Terrorcons.

I would hope that we do not see Unicron in any IDW comics frankly. Springer is an option, he seems to be getting a bit of panel-time every so often so there is always the potential for him to get some centre-stage time. I'd be curious to see what they did with Springer to differentiate him from his Marvel characterisation.
My only hope for future spotlights is that they function better as character spotlight pieces than some of the recent ones have. The Prime and Arcee ones are prime offenders here. Neither of them felt like they really fitted the profile of a character-based one-shot. They felt instead like they were off-cuts of another series that had been shoved over.

So far we've been told that Unicron won't be in the main IDW universe so a spotlight is unlikely.
Thank goodness!

Oh I'm all for seeing Unicron, at some point, not yet. Unicron is part of the Transformers 'World', he should be in there eventually. I actually am intruiged by the Nemesis Prime plot. As for spotlights, I think a blend is best. Some character based, some feeding more into the large IDW story arch, some a bit of both. I'm really enjoying the IDW-verse. I think Furman and artists are doing a new story arch, that harks back to the good old days as well. They're also doing some wonderfull characterisation. We've had a hard-arse logical Prowl, a good-willed hero-type Ratchet, an action-hero Springer. Great characters. As for furture Spotlights, I feel there's tons of characters to choose from. I'd like to see the Predacons (Spotlight: Razorclaw maybe) for one.

Wreck-Gar might also be an option. It would be interesting to see how Furman writes him. Will he give him the Eric Idle type of character as portrayed in the movie (and I think the Marvel UK comics) or will they give him a more harder edge?

I have no desire whatsover for any particular characters to be spotlighted. Until they appear I don't know how they will be like, what with the IDW-verse being its own thing and not based on Marvel or Sunbow or whatever.
Bit more variety in how they were done would be nice. They were being locked into One Robot Is Central And We Have Their Monologue. Which is why the Spotlight Arcee issue was so refreshing, having it just be a reasonably dense single issue storyline in ye olde Marvel manner in which the title character featured a fair bit but wasn't the main focus and wasn't bloody narrating the entire thing!

Yeah, I can see where you are coming from there. That's partly why the only one that springs to my mind is Springer. What we have seen of him in IDW's stuff so far makes him seem a bit "marine seargent"-ish, and I'd be curious to see them develop him bit further.
But in general as long as whatever character they pick they give a bit of depth to, and tell a decent story that sheds light on their character, then that will work for me.

It's tradition. But right enough, a number of the others are starting to get to the "I am turning the door handle and walking through the door" level. Karl

Ralph is Nick Roche?!?!
Gumshoe- love that word.
Good point 'bout the narration. I'd like to see a little less of that. Springer is defo close to the top of my list. Naturally I'd say Prowl, Jazz, but Prowl in partic is getting good coverage elsewhere. Although Ratchet is getting plenty of action/development, this IDW Ratchet is so interesting to me, I maybe think he could stand his own Spotlight. As a Skids fan, I'd like to see him, but not sure he could pull off his own Spotlight. Unless it was a Ramjet esc story. Spinister would be an interesting, gloomy, choice also.

I agree that Spinister would be a good choice. Perhaps Banzai-tron, so we could get a tale of the Secret Service? As much as I'm enjoying the Spotlights (Mirage and Ramjet excepted) I think we could do with a few more Decepticon-based ones.

Spotlight Wheelie appears in the June solicitations. The cover image contains a potential spoiler of the creature that he will be fighting.

And just when we were starting to think the rumours were wrong, that his cameo in Prime's Spotlight was nothing more than a DW-esque "Easter Egg"...
I reaffirm my belief that Spotlight: Longtooth is inevitable. IDW don't do cameos - they do teasers.

I love the fact we are getting Spotlight: Wheelie. As I was saying to G in an email today. There are no bad characters, only bad writing. Except for The Fallen. Not even Shakespeare could save his ass.

If anything, I think Shakespeare would have made the Fallen even more unbearable.

Not bad at all. Quite like the redesign on Cyclonus - much chunkier than the original (which feels too slender to me these days). Works well in sequential terms as well.

Good art. Too easy to imagine the narration though:
1st page: I am Cyclonus! I fly through the air! All of them below...hide in fear!*
2nd page: I can feel them cowering in the rubble. I will find them! I will... Crush them!

It will be a shame if the narration is like that, although I've a feeling Furman might surprise us. As for the art, it's really nice, the first page in particular. I hope Josh colours it so that we don't end up with the muddy efforts of some of the other colourists.
