When Casey told me I thought is was funny, but then when I saw it I couldn't stop laughing and at every point during the colouring it got more and more real, and therefore funnier!

Welcome to The Hub! And I will add my 'well done' on the colouring, you have done a really nice stab at carrying through the retro-feel that the cover is going for. A very nice job indeed.

I like that Optimus is saying "Come join our alliance with AMERICA! That'll bring ALL nations together!" and Rampage is having none of it, which kinda makes Rampage look more knowledgable about geopolitics (which is probably not the case). Oh, look, the goodie robots are with DEMOCRACY. (Gawd bless poster Dave)

Dear lord that's so absolutely bloody stupid. The art is pretty but that's it. Andy The "American is the land of the free and is wonderful derp derp" stuff that the Autobots are spouting is both hilariously out of touch with the real world, but also events in the comic. It would be more accurate for them to say "We have made an alliance with a paranoid, violent, treacherous militaristic country. Want to join us?". But it seems to be resonating well with American fans, maybe that's the idea.

I'm bemused that Optimus and everyone are all shocked and asking the Predacons not to ally with China, and not, say, going "NO, China! Don't ally with the PREDACONS!".
So the People's Republic of China is worse than the Decepticons? The PRC is responsible for a lot of nasty stuff, but I don't think they've wiped out whole planets.

It always seemed to me that Prime and others though not all Autobots on the whole would actually view Socialism/unionism/marxism/communism quite positively if not the behaviour of the countries and groups following those practices.
And yeah after the US behaviour in the comic so far the dialogue feels completely wrong.

Thanks Charles (I used to have my uses around here ). I think this is the first time a preview for the ongoing has managed to interest me. With the possibility of (unintentional) hilarity I might grab this when it hits the App.

The idea that Transformers would need to pimp themselves out to nations in return for a fuel supply is ever so slightly daft. As a race which is dependent on Energon you would think that some of them at least know how to fashion the stuff without help from humanity. And if it is a resource thing then surely the Decepticons and big and powerful enough to take what they need, so why accept a human master?
Then again I suppose the original Marvel miniseries saw the bots and cons seeking help from an auto-mechanic to create fuel so may be there is a precedent!?

The idea that Transformers would need to pimp themselves out to nations in return for a fuel supply is ever so slightly daft. As a race which is dependent on Energon you would think that some of them at least know how to fashion the stuff without help from humanity. And if it is a resource thing then surely the Decepticons and big and powerful enough to take what they need, so why accept a human master? If we accept the premise that there are only a handful of Transformers on Earth (those that were seen in Sunbow episodes perhaps..... and ignore the fact that additional Transformers can pop into existence from the quantum foam in any corner of the world so long as their is no concious observer to determine the variables) then it makes a certain sense that they might start to make alliances in exchange for raw materials - going to war against an entire nation might end up costing them more than the resources that they would get back by winning. My problem with this isn't the story idea, it is the lasy execution. We have the Autobots automatically teaming up with America because America is Freedomland and the leader of all free peoples in the universe - despite the fact that their interaction with America basically boiled down to hiding from the US Military's attempts to wipe them out to a 'bot. (But all is forgiven because America is Good and so are the Autobots). Meanwhile the Evil Decepticons team-up with the bad-guy countries (defined as those who are opposed to America) because as Evil Enemies of Freedom they make natural allies. Lasy and dull. A more interesting version of this story would have had some of the Decepticons making an agreement with Saudi Arabia, Britain or a neutral country like Switzerland or something to defend them in return for logistical support. (Or play up the idea of the Autobots siding with America because they support freedom and steadily becoming used more and more as tools of US foreign policy). But that would be much more complicated and thought-provoking than IDW seem to be intending for these comics. Much better to have the Decepticons team up with the bad foreign people whilst the Autobots work for America because it is Freedomland. Karl

(Or play up the idea of the Autobots siding with America because they support freedom and steadily becoming used more and more as tools of US foreign policy) A few weeks back on the IDW boards someone made a similar point. And Mike Costa was soon in the thread talking to this person because they were the first to pick up on it. He hinted that this was indeed his plan, and he seemed mystified that nobody else was getting it.

Probably because it suggests a level of intelligence in the writing and an interesting direction IDW has not really been achieving for some time.

I can't speak for the quality of this issue of Ongoing because I stopped buying the series a few issues ago out of sheer boredom but as the previews indicate only a very stupid and decompressed read there's nothing there to make me want to buy it.
