I was watching the second part of Death of the Doctor yesterday evening when, just it reached the closing credits, all the lights went and the power went off. So I got my Emergency Candles out (that is what they are called, they come in a tin labelled "Emergency Candles" and lit them to take stock of the situation. Looking out the window revealed that Falkirk was resoundingly in darkness so it was clearly not just me.
Fortunately I have a gas hob that was already on cooking my dinner, so once that was done and served up I filled a saucepan of water and arranged some hot water to fill a couple of Thermos flasks should I need them.
Then I sat down to eat my dinner and then listen to a Doctor Who audio drama by candlelight which was quite atmospheric. The power managed to come back on in time for Colditz so I rounded off the evening watching David McCallum determinedly trying to escape from Germany and earning himself a trip to Offlag 4C.
Power seems to still be on this morning as I get ready for a trip to the doctor (hoping he will be able to sort out an ear problem that has been going on for months now).

Lost my mind in the Sainsburys half-price toy sale. Grabbing lunch then off on a trip to the parentals to drop off some birthday presents for the father unit. Back tomorrow.

Knackering day of the week number two today.
On Tuesday I had a trip to London and back on the train for a six-hour meeting in which I could largely remain a passive observer. But today I was at a conference in Swansea in which I had to give a talk in front of a hundred people or so. It seemed to go well, though I over-ran a little bit. Anyway, I got a bottle of wine as a thank-you, which was nice.
Between the two days I've clocked up 9.5 flexi-hours, so I'm going to treat myself to short work days tomorrow and next week.

Back tomorrow. -Ralph What, to Sainsburys for more? Nay, to sunny Clydebank for the shocking revelation from the Father unit that he quite likes watching CBBC. "There's many great programmes on there!". Oh dear. Sparky the parental's dog is coming up for 11 and she's getting slow, bless her. The public transport Gods did not smile on me on the way back today, so my journey back took 90 minutes longer than it should have. I felt rage. Fresh clothing and shoes have been purchased for work. Friday night is takeaway night. Hurray! -Ralph

Don't forget to put all your clocks back one hour tomorrow night, folks!
And enjoy your one extra-long night of the year.

I'll let you know once I take out of the packaging the 11th Doctor Sonic Screwdriver I procured in the Sainsburys half-price toy sale and thus feel Doctor-like enough to pronounce judgement.
EDIT: The battery compartment requires the one size of screwdriver head I don't have. Sigh.

Ralph is having similar issues. This morning a card saying while you were out was passed through his letterbox dated yesterday.
Fucking Royal Mail.

The Royal Mail is a disgrace, every single parcel I have ever ordered has been a struggle to wrest from their hands. I've given up having stuff delivered to my home, the postman always puts through a 'sorry you weren't in' slip even when I'm in the house and standing by the door! Stuff goes to work now where they have no excuse! I've not got in trouble for that yet!

Fortunately we have a very good post lady - who Liz knew anyway, reliable regular parcel delivery guy and even the regular Parcelfarce bloke is good.
Parcel now in my hand. Unfortunately queue for Post office was out the door so Matt's package is still yet to be posted.

As do I. After a few false starts in recent years I'm hoping I can do it, that it suits me and that it gives me the stability I'm been missing since 2007. I have a good feeling about it though.

All the best for tomorrow Ralph.
I am enjoying a quiet evening this evening. Got back late on this afternoon from spending the weekend at Andy's -Vodka was imbibed, cartoons were watched, movies and Doctor Who was watched and some good banter was had. I have spent this evening with my feet up watching some DVDs, a good way to end a good weekend.
