So as long as I ignore online fandom I can enjoy it! That shouldn't be hard. I feel like many Bothans died to bring me that tip though.

Actually pretty much most 'new' fandoms tend to be horrific. I avoid them all as much as possible. Helps to avoid tumblr completely!! I especially dislike when these fandoms feed back into the source, and feel like this happened to MTMTE / LL. I still find just enough in it to enjoy, but any time I dip into review threads, etc. I am aghast so have deliberately avoided them for a long time. There are a few TF fans on Twitter who are now have on near-permanent mute (or have turned off retweets for) because of this, too. -Jim |

...But in this case, the Brony culture is so toxic that it's poisoned the well. You're automatically labled, whether you participate or not. And they're just so disgusting and destructive, and hostile towards the intended audience that I just can't do it. I can't watch the show and enjoy it anymore because of them. Wow really? That's terrible! I know nothing the 'fandom' thing. I don't really understand. Why are they so terrible? What's their beef? |

The Brony fandom at large has oversexualized it. Porn will exist for almost everything, but the bronies have taken it to insane levels. It's not safe to google it, even with safe search on. Because a ton of them refuse to classify their art as adult, because they think it's funny that little girls will see it.
I've seen people bragging about shutting out little girls, people talking about how dare they (little girls) think they have a right to it, and generally being extremely misogynistic.
Then there's this weird thing where some of them either think they're LGBTQIA because they think they're ponies in people bodies, using pony-based pronouns, and even in one extreme case turning in resumes like this, or else they're using this to actively mock real LGBT people.
Then there's the neo nazi bronies. Like... have you ever SEEN the show? Because how the f*** do you get nazi ideals out of a show based on acceptance, love, and friendship?
Yes, I realize these are extreme examples, and do not represent everyone in the fandom.
But these people have come to be the public face of the adult MLP fandom. In my experience here, if I even admit to liking this show, I'm automatically painted by this. I've had that experience a few times.

CJ, what you describe is disturbing and disgusting! What's the matter with these people?!?! I'm sorry you've been affected by this dark culture as you have been. I'm stunned by all this. I had no idea. I'd vaguely heard about 'Bronies', but I had no idea their were elements of the Fandom that pervert MLP so. It's unbelievable.

Slightly disappointed in that. I think it doesn't quite get across how smart the TV show can be; I hope it's a failing of the trailer rather than the movie itself.

Just watched a recent episode with my daughter, and I love the concept - Twilight publishes the Friendship Diary, but has to bemoan everyone concentrating on the characters and adventures and missing all the friendship stuff. Would be nice if that lesson landed with the right people, but sadly I doubt it will.
Some great lines though:
"Rarity, what are you wearing?!?"
"My emotions, darling. Stress couture!"

So the movie's out on DVD and I warched it, and here are my spoiler free opinions-
It was pretty good.
It largely does what one would expect a movie like this should do- expands the world, and gives the world a much more epic scope than we're used to seeing.
The animation looks and feels like the series, but nicer (unlike Teen Titans Go to the Movies).
Interesting new characters (sadly voiced by major celebrities, making them unlikely to return), with unique designs. Though I wish there were fewer humanoid designs... that kinda felt lazy.
It was a nice way to kill time. And you know... that may be about the best complement there could be for a movie.
