You know this is the ninth Classic series TARDIS Character have done, plus the five new series ones. All off the same basic mould with alternate pieces for the base, roof, door panel and lights. You'd think people would have got bored of them by now. I suppose the draw is that this is the first time Troughton has had one specifically (and the fact that the Androzani and Shada TARDISes that came out this time last year vanished instantly), but it's really just the original Fourth Doctor TARDIS with a slightly thinner base taken from another release and a new light on top. Oh and the electronics gutted. Only the Forbidden Planet ones had lights and sounds in the classic line, none of the B&M ones have had.

This is interesting if not that useful right now. I learn B&M have an app that you can use to scan barcodes and it'll tell you the price, which people use to find discounted items that aren't marked up as such. It seems this can actually be used to check stock in shops as the barcodes for the Who toys are on merchandise.thedoctorwhosite.co.uk/category/toys/5-12-figures/ and GBers are using it to look. I can't work out how though. The app scans the barcode and recognises what it is, but doesn't mention anything about stock levels in shops. Reading GB apparently the stock check function only works on Apple devices!

There was only 1 2nd Doctor out yesterday. today he is gone, there is no tag for him but lots of 3rd Doctor.
Romana and 2 bonus figures secured for Ralph. Went there early doors this AM as I have a thing I need to finish off today and wanted it done quickly.

Time enough this morning to sweep the local area and get the lie of the land. I've been to four B&Ms and found differing arrangements of the three packs in all of them. So those are all bought. I don't think anywhere round here has had the TARDIS or Dalek sets in yet, in fact GB seems to still be of the opinion they haven't been seen in the south at all.
However I'm surprised to find a post over there that suggests Amazon (US) are a couple of months away from getting the reissue wave that will inevitably follow this one. Usually in the UK that's a next spring thing - B&M over the last couple of years have put out a lot of the summer wave again with slight paint tweaks the following spring. This could be a fake list, but the names suggest it's probably accurate to what we should expect.
Dr Who - History of the Daleks Twin Pack A The Chase Dr Who - History of the Daleks Twin Pack B The Daleks Masterplan Nice to see this line continuing. Chase Daleks have been out several times before, including the blue one, and we've had a Masterplan one with a flame thrower and the black supreme - I'd assume the Masterplan set will be those two figures reissued as there isn't an appreciable difference between the drones in those two stories. The Chase set will be a hard sell as it'll presumably be the same as the last Chase set but without the mechanoid.
Dr Who - 5th Dr & Tardis Set - Castrovalva This will be a lighter coloured repaint of the Davison TARDIS that came out last year with one of the two existing regeneration Davison figures. We had a reissue of the regen Fourth Doc last year with a TARDIS, so it must be the fifth's turn.
Dr Who - Companions Of the 4th Dr Set B (2 asst) Dr Who - Friends and Foes of the 13th Dr Set B Same titles as the current releases suggest these will be minor repaints, that's usual, but I'm not sure how you can do that with the 4th Doc set and not change the figures. Those costumes are very specific. The foe in the 13th set will probably change - either a helmetless Judoon or something else.
Dr Who - 1975 U.N.I.T Terror of the Zygons Set B There has to be some buggering around here because if the new UNIT set (the fact the current one has a date on it made it clear another was coming) is Zygons - it obviously can't have Yates in it. So this might be a Brig/Benton/Harry set reusing the Harry head from last year on a more story accurate body. Pity though, when they did the Spearhead Brig figure and reissued that it was identical except the paint was lightened very slightly (which made it look awful). Any changes to the Brig in a Zygons set would be minimal. Pity - I was hoping the next UNIT set would be Invasion of the Dinosaurs so we could have a Benton/Casual Yates/Journo Sarah trio.
NEW ACE AND DALEK ROCKET LAUNCHER PACK 12TH DOCTOR AND DAVROS These might well be US only because they don't fit the current release pattern. In any case, nothing new there, all those figures have been out before. They'd be reissues or minor repaints.
In any case, speculation aside, I'm pleased to have found the three packs. So glad to have Benton and Yates. There are loads of display options for Third Doctor stories now. Claws of Axos has the Doctor, Jo, Master, Axon monster, Axon, Brig, Benton and Yates!

Still no TARDIS sets seen anywhere in the south. I guess Shockprowl is right, the north is better. However it does seem as though stock of them is staying on shelves now where they are available, which bodes well long term.

TARDIS secured! Weekly Sainsbury's shop this morning so I popped in the b&m next to it. 6 Troughton sets and a few of the Dalek packs, so I also opted to increase my Dead Planet army as these have the studio marks on the back of them. Space had been cleared since I was in there the other day. The woman on the til said, "These are popular today!" So I explained they're eagerly anticipated and brand new. "Must be," she said, "The man I served ten minutes ago bought a trolley full." I said they'll probably be on eBay in half an hour for twice the price.
I then found the Power DVD in Sainsbury's. I was so surprised I bought it.

This is a bit cheeky actually. I do have a blue Chase Dalek from a previous release, but that used one of the standard moulds. These two are using the Invasion mould with bigger bases, but they've done new ear covers so they look like movie Daleks. www.dalek6388.co.uk/the-chase/ says that the movie props used in The Chase had their ear lights changed to match the existing TV props, so Character have been a bit naughty here and stealth released movie Daleks under the guise of being the Chase ones. As far as I remember, Character's licence didn't cover the film Daleks, which is why they've not been done before (aside from adapting the Invasion mould to do the Supreme from Planet years ago).

Yes they are being naughty but it's nice to see the movie Daleks get a release. Surprised this are a website exclusive rather than B&M.

I rarely buy DW toys (I am more about the fiction) but I did order this 2-pack. So bright and colourful. They can go with my 4 B&M Daleks to form a small army.

I've never got into Doctor Who toys at all for some reason, and I had the idea recently that though I don't want to get into collecting them I'd really like toys of "my" doctor and companion, and maybe a TARDIS, if there are any good ones out there. What is the quality like on the toys?
Are there any good versions of the 7th Doctor and Ace, which aren't too hard to get hold of?

Oof that Sarah Jane is a bit of a stretch. The new Tom head does not look good either, however it makes it a bit different from the constant reuse of the others. I absolutely love the fact the generic UNIT trooper is Yates with a moustache. Surely there was another option for a bit of variety there! I can see the Davison TARDIS being hard to get. Jim's questions - I love this line and in terms of Classic Who, Eccleston & Tennant have the lot. They aren't brilliant figures by today's standards - no where near Black Series in terms of articulation or detail, and they're a bit shorter too (they work on a weird 5.5 inch scale as opposed to six) but they're fun. The face sculpts are just about good enough to be the characters they represent and while the articulation limits posing (especially having no ankle joints) they're good, solid kids' toys. I think when it comes to McCoy your best bet is to see what you can find on eBay. There have been five different McCoy figures - all based off a combination of a serious or smiling face, hat or no hat, same body with cream or brown jacket. It being these days releases are mainly repaints exclusive to B&M, the most recent are not the best ones and were only in their stores. Last year there was a three pack out that had a serious/hatless McCoy in the cream jacket that came with two Silver Nemesis Cybermen - until the new sets came out a month or so back, those were still on shelves being clearanced. Really for a typical MCoy you'd either want the original 2010 smiling/hatted cream jacket, or the brown jacket version of that which came with his TARDIS. That was an electronic TARDIS though and I think now is pretty pricey. There are two versions of Ace, from 2013/14 that were exclusives to Forbidden Planet. The last rumour about this line suggested one of those was going to be reissued soon in America via Amazon. The Ace in jacket with rucksack is a nice figure - lot of paint detail.

Thanks! Looks like it shouldn't be too hard to find the Doctor. I'll wait and see how that rumour pans out for Ace. The Remembrance versions that I've found are either very pricy or quite reasonable but with insane shipping from the US.

Who wouldn't want a grandma Connolly figure! Come on!
My personal nadir was Lazlo. He was EVERYWHERE clogging pegs for years. Even at 99p in toys r us he peg warmed indefinitely. Any new toys in? Nah, just another box of pig face.
It's astonishing now to think what actually was in that line at its height. Absolute bollocks. Some really lovely figures, but also some total bobbins.

Oop. Took my eye off the ball; apparently the new wave are already out as of last Friday. I'll have to do a b&m sweep tomorrow but that's probably not good news for the TARDIS. Bah. I was outside b&m on Friday too but I thought, nah, way too early.
You've got to think though, if these two waves have come out so close together, there must be some restocking at some point because presumably now there won't be anything new until at least the spring.

Ah yeah, meant to mention that after my B&M ramblings elsewhere, but there was a small amount of Who stuff in the Castlemilk B&M today. In case anyone's after anything, there was: - Friends and Foe of the Thirteenth Doctor
- U.N.I.T. 1971 - The Claws of Axos
- Companions of the Fourth Doctor
- The Two Doctors
- History of the Daleks #4
- History of the Daleks #2
- The Seventh Docto rand Axis Strike Squad Dalek
- The Third Doctor and TARDIS from The Monster of Peladon
- The Fifth Doctor and TARDIS from The Visitation
- The Second Doctor and TARDIS from The War Games
And because I didn't frame the picture properly I don't know the names of the other two sets, but there's what I'm guessing is Romana in a red coat, and the Fourth (?) Doctor with a Tartan scarf and what I'm guessing are two U.N.I.T. chaps.

Blimey that's a gold mine compared to down here. You should see the amazing new Havant B&M with precisely nothing in it. Interesting the Troughton TARDIS is still actually in shops. That bodes well for finding the Davison one.
History 3&4, Davison TARDIS, the red coat Romana set and Tartan Tom are what's new this week. The only thing missing is the friends of the 13th set with Graham instead of the Judoon.
