Was intending to sell my collection of Alternators, most still with box, but wondered if they are still considered 'valuable'. I have Smokescreen, Tracks, Skids, Shockwave, Ravage (Jaguar), Sunstreaker, Sideswipe, Silverstreak and Hound. How much, rough estimation, would you expect me to make from all those?

Goodness, not a clue. I imagine out of all those Sunstreaker is probably the most valuble. A completed listings search on ebay is your best bet.

Around a tenner each judging by recent eBay auctions. Sunstreaker doesn't seem to have any particular value above the others on ebay.com.

Wow, the value of these has really dropped off! I thought I could make £200 from the whole lot. Oh well, that's collecting for you...

Only a tenner each?! Gosh I'm surprised by that.

I've had good prices for Alternators in the past, above retail for sealed Shockwaves and Ravages, but I haven't had any to sell for a year or more, so I don't know what they're like at the moment.

Well, Anon, if you don't want them anymore then they currently are worth £0.00 so even if you get a tenner a pop that's still £90 you didn't have before and space reclaimed!

If anything they're worth -£x because they're taking up space. You should pay someone to take them!

I wonder, with these toys being quite complicated and fragile, if there isn't really a market at all for loose ones, as there's the fear of getting one that's broken.
I've never seen an Alternator, but I have heard that the plastic on them is rather poor and prone to stress marks?

The alternators really pale in comparison to the Binaltechs. I owned both the binaltech and alternator Windcharger - the Binaltech one is a thing of beauty, the alternator feels like a cheap KO BT "Windcharger" is my absolute favourite of the range! It really is incredible how much the manufacturing quality of the Binaltech range makes it so much nicer. The plastic quality seems thicker, with plastic areas painted in places, and of course the die-cast. In contrast, the alternator Windcharger seemed very brittle and transparent. I'm not one for die-cast for the sake of die-cast (for example I think Alternity is bobbins) but the use of it in the Binaltech line was ace. Fun fact, as well as the obvious missing gun barrel, the alternator version had a different visor (off the top of my head, I BELIEVE the binaltech one used the same visor as Meister, ie larger and thicker. I preferred that.

I've found quite a lot of Alternators at car boot sales and generally they survive quite well. They tend to be missing a lot of parts, but only because they have ball and socket joints the same an any other modern transformer. So buying second hand wouldn't worry me too much as long as I could see enough of the toy to make sure an head arm or door wasn't missing.
The only bits that might be of concern are the steering wheels and gear sticks.

It's just dawned on me: Last month I sold an Alternators Optimus Prime for £11 on eBay.

I love my Alternators, my 'grown-up' collection. But yes, they're as fragile as hell, and I never transform them anymore for fear of damage! They are display only in robot mode! The BTs I have are stronger. X, if you have a Mirage, I'll buy him off you. For a tenner!
