I picked up* Foundation #1 and Rising Storm #1 over the weekend.
Actually very nicely written, and some snappy dialogue and characterisation from some of the more obscure characters. However the artwork in Rising Storm is going to be a complete turn off if you didn't like Nefarious. And that weird toning is present in the colouring again.
Foundation is the better of the two issues, the artwork is much nicer and very colourful for the "Movie" look.
*Downloaded the digital editions through the IDW Transformers App.

I'm waiting for the trades of these like I did with the prequels the last two times. I find they read better as a whole and arrive in time for me to digest them a bit before the new movie is out which helps me enjoy it more (and actually get what the story is about!).
Good to know they've started off well. Was slightly concerned by the poor quality of 'Tales' and 'Nefarious'.

A very good point! If I hadn't read Defiance prior to seeing ROTF I think I would have been even more bewildered by the story.

I had the opposite experience! ROTF seemed to be in a completely different universe from Defiance and I was pretty confused by certain aspects, ie the Fallen's status. I thought it was a decent comic though: the only Movie-related thing to grab me beyond a tosh level.
Not read these new comics yet. Pre-ordered them yonks ago. Waiting on Royal Mail...

Foundation is definitely the getter of two. Great art and colours. I liked both first issues but the art and colour was a bit off putting.

Enjoyable tosh action/adventure reads though several points off for the horrendous art in Rising Storm. I have not encountered Carlos Magno before, and have no wish to again! That's...publishable? I did enjoy the unintentional amusing bits in Foundation such as Prime punching the ground for no apparent reason*, Megatron's "AH HA HA HA HA HA!" moment, everyone shifting positions between panels so they can do a "FREEEEEEEEEEEEDOM!" pose and just about any line Alpha-, sorry, Sentinel Prime says especially when he decides to leg it and name some random dude (Optimus) to do his work for him! *I think he's meant to be killing some dude but the art looks like he is so insane now that he's just attacking the ground! I'll be back for Foundation. Not so sure about Rising Storm. -Ralph

Carlos drew some of Tales of the Fallen and all of Nefarious. You might want to avoid those series.

I shall continue not to read those stories then!

I have to confess, I found Foundation #2 to be quite boring. Felt like it was circling the drain. Looks great though and it isn't actually bad, just not a lot going on. Undecided whether to pick up #3.

I have read Foundation ish 1, still waiting for ish 2 to show up. It seems ok, following a pattern that the live action movie comics I tend to like are those that have least to do with actual films. It was nonsense, but it was competently delivered nonsense with a decent (appropriately pompous) narrative voice.

Gave Rising Storm a second chance on a whim. Pleasantly surprised by how enjoyable #2 was. Decent purple-prose nonsense. This version of Shockers is fun, even if he doesn't feel much like previous iterations other than in name and looks.
Even the Magno did not bother me too much.
In other news, I have hunted high and low in the flat for Foundation #1 and Rising Storm #1 to re-appraise them, but both appear to have vanished! Gah.

Issue 2 of Foundation has now shown up and..... didn't really make much of an impression on me. It look reasonably nice (allowing for my dislike of the Movie aesthetic in comics) but it didn't feel like it had a great deal of content. It felt rather like it was attempting to swiftly recap the non-Fallen related bits of one of the second movies prequels and to tell us that Prime and Megatron were once friends before they had to fight each other.... which latter was what the previous issue had done. Hmmm. Shall have to decide whether I bother sticking with this.

FPL now have a sign under the IDW TF and True Blood comics stating that each customer will be allowed to buy only two issues of a comic. Are people bulk buying them and sticking them on ebay, I wonder?

That's weird, why don't they just up their order and sell more, unless it's there to deter one or two particular customers who are known scalpers. But True Blood and TFs are hardly worth money on the aftermarket.

Maybe they're hoping for the "Gosh! I can only buy two I MUST HAVE THEM!" reaction from customers like we get when supermarkets limit bread in the cold weather.

Rising Storm #3 has been downloaded* and read. John Barber is fast becoming a new favourite writer of mine. A very witty and entertaining script. Even the artwork is slightly improving. Wheeljack humourously says, "Sod Off!". Is he British? And poor Galloway... just as I was warming to him!

The art on Rising Storm is a bit of a turn off fo me, but the story is lively enough.

Foundation #3 is also out this week for the IDW App.
I have to say this: It's the best Transformers issue from IDW so far this year.

Based on this, I'd like to see John and Andrew tackle an ongoing movieverse comic post DOTM.

I stuck with Rising Storm until the end. While the art was not to my personal taste much of the time the story was quite fun and overall I rather enjoyed it.

Indeed it was a good story. I'd very much like them to hand John Barber a post DOTM Transformers movieverse ongoing.

Read #1 of both last night. the art in Foundation is still amazing when reading it. Shockwave did seem to come out of nowhere in Rising Storm - the 2 bits in the sky looked like missiles then everyone got him by purple blasts.

Word on 'the net' is that the single issues of the DOTAMAN adaptation include a serialised prose story which is not in the collected edition. Though I have yet to sight the trade to check this.

Got the Rising Storm trade in the post on Monday, only had time to read the first issue so far but I thought it was quite good. The art is not to my taste but I like the story, it is pacy and is funny in the right places. Actually, if it stays in this vein it might be up there with The Veiled Threat as some of the best of the live-action movie related media. If it keeps up the marks it has set that is.

Just got the DOTM trade - so need to get the 4 comics to get the text story that isn't collected in the trade.

Has #4 of the adaptation come out yet? I would have expected it by now, unless the post has eaten it.

I'm hoping to pick up the 4 comics for 50p each seeing that only getting it for the text story. Read #1 in the trade last night. So stuff in the trade isn't what is in the film. Sideswipe doesn't talk in that scene & Skids Mudflap dont talk to SenPrime & get shot by him. So they used early script - also Wheeljack name used.
