Read the following very carefully and do exactly as I say!!
As you'll know from my blethering this morning, the kettle at work died, so I popped into Argos to replace it! My local Argos is old... it's been there for well over 30 years.
There was a huge queue (a lot of people getting kitchen stuff for Mother's Day it looked like), so while I was waiting I had a flick through the catalogue and started putting in numbers into the computer to see what was in stock.
And then a curious idea popped into my head! You'll remember from the Argos Catalogue Nostalgia Thread (http://tmukhub.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=toysmerch&action=display&thread=3607) that we'd found some pages with old Transformers in. I just so happened to have print outs of those scans in my bag. So, bored as I was, I started putting in the old numbers in to the computer.
As to be expected, the numbers came up with Not Found, Error, Out Of Stock, that sort of thing. But when I got to a certain number, it said 1 Item In Stock. I nearly choked.
I queued up with the number written down, my hands visibly shaking. When I got to the till, the girl confirmed the item and I paid £6.95. I could feel my heart in my chest.
I waited by the collection point. And I waited.
And waited.
And then, on the conveyor belt came down a dusty, worn and heavily flap-creased never opened Transformers Generation 1 Nightbeat. I had to put my hand over my mouth. I dashed forwards to collection point B and thrust my receipt in the face of the man behind the counter. Seconds later, and after a confused smile from him, Nightbeat was mine. A brand new Nightbeat was mine. For £6.95.
Friends, I implore you: stop what you're doing, print out the pages from the old Argos catalogues and get to your nearest store and start entering the item numbers to see what other old Transformers are out there! Remember, it will only be the old stores that might have old stock tucked away in the corners of their storage. Don't got to any new or out of town stores.
Good luck!!
