What the character ? Been in the comics for a few years now, Peter David's done some fun stuff with him.

The character, yes, he sounds a bit over powered, but the casting as well. Overall, the choices just seem a bit odd. Good director though, so he may well pull it all together.

Depends how they play the character, but in the comic he can't really control the evolution power, it just happens to keep him alive. He doesn't keep the enhancements any longer than he needs them and when faced with something his body can't handle, he'll be teleported away to safety.

Frankly as long as the plot doesn't revolve around a ray to turn mutants into humans / humans into mutants like the others, I'll be happy!

I hear from Ralph (via txt msg) and Andu (via Twitter) that X-Men First Class is tops and the best film of the X-Men Franchise. Care to enlighten me what the other cameo is? I already know Wolverine is in it briefly....

I hear from Ralph (via txt msg) and Andu (via Twitter) that X-Men First Class is tops and the best film of the X-Men Franchise. Yeah, I'd have to go along with that, though I love them all, especially X2. James McAvoy was astoundingly good as Xavier. It's rare to see someone that young (or appearing that young) with such screen presence and acting ability. A more than worthy predecessor/successor to Patrick Stewart - which is something I was not anticipating. The movie was going great, then just when I thought it couldn't get any better they gave me Michael Ironside. It made my day. Re: uncredited cameos, apart from Hugh Jackman I think Rebecca Romijn might have been in there briefly. Martin

It is everything the original X-Men film wasn't and has a far more engaging storyline than X-Men 2 (previously my favourite). I did not care for X-men: The Last Stand or X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
The cast are superb and inhabit their roles utterly.

I may have to break my 5 year long absence from the cinema to see this then...

Basically, and I speak as literaly an X-Men fan as long as I can remember, it is the best film version of the X-Men I have seen. It is a far better film than any of the previous X-Men related films. James MacAvoy and <I forget his first name> Fassbendener are absolutely superb as Charles Xavier and Eric Lensherer. Indeed, the whole cast are absolutely marvelous, really no-one fails to carry their weight...
The story is very strong, and there is a clear spine to it that carries the characters through. It also has characters that are far more textured than the previous X-Men films.
Don't see it because of the cameos (even though they are funny/clever respectively), don't see it because it is a good X-Men film..... See it because it is a really good cinema experience and one of the best Superhero films in a long time... (Basically, it is great and well worth seeing).

Wow definitely going to have to see this now. I'd kind of written it off as another phoned-in spin off like XMO: Wolverine. Thanks chaps.

Martin, you are indeed correct about your second cameo.
Really enjoyed the film.

So much fun. Fits what came before/will come later very well and the 60's setting just does so much for the film and the franchise. The beauty is that they can make sequels for the next 30 years with the cast allowed to age instead of the static ageless comics.

That was a really high quality film. Really well made. I like super hero films that don't look or feel like superhero films.
And for a 'leg man' the first hour was verynicethankyou. Might take a mac next time.

It's up there with The Dark Knight and Superman: The Movie in the realm of comic based films as far as I am concerned. It's rare to get the feel of the source material, have a compelling story and work as a film in its own right for this type of film.

Saw this today and enjoyed it. Darwin and Angel didn't really need to be in it, and couldn't work out who Riptide was supposed to be until the credits, but other than that, best X-Men movie so far.

I thought Riptide was meant to be Rictor until checking it on wikipedia. Rictor wouldn't have been right anyway though.

Ordered a copy to be sent to the father unit for his birthday. Hopefully RM don't lose it like the last thing I tried to send.
My folks loved The Last Stand and Wolverine so I had to disown them for a while.

Don't have this on pre-order anywhere but I will likely be picking it up in the week. I've become more selective in terms of what I buy on DVD but this is one of those things I just have to have in the collection.

The film's still great, but the DVD's abysmal in terms of extras (c.f. the two-disc versions of the first three films). However, I bought the "Triple Play" version in case I get a Blu-ray player one day and I gather there are more extras (which I can't view at present) on the Blu-ray disc.

Yeah, five deleted scenes on the dvd and thirteen (I believe) on the bluray, which comes in some wholly unnecessary for me triple play edition. Guess I won't be getting any version then.

The Triple play is great: Liz has taken the DVD on holiday with her but I've got the BD to watch here.
