Cloud Starscream VAT £14.09 Clearance £13.50 When did the clearance fee increase? Don't remember it being £13.50 before? At least that's actually less than the Import VAT, just. EMS is £13.50, normal airmail is £8. Doesn't mean they process it any faster when it hits the UK though.

Got off v lightly. Using Fed ex more often :-)

£27.67 import VAT, plus £8 clearance = £35.67 ransom to pay today. Boo to Parcel Force.
By the way, I know we're talking about customs charges and import VAT here, but what does CUTA actually stand for?

It's an acronym:
Customed Up The ....
I leave at as exercise to the reader to establish what the word starting with an A is !
Needless to say previous comments about bending over and it stinging will suddenly make much more sense!

Aaaaaaah. I see. Yes, that makes sense. It certainly does take the shine off import buying when you get landed with another bill after the inevitably heavy cost of the postage in the first place.

When I originally asked the question what does CUTA stand for, I was told the 'C' stood for a different word than customed. A rude word. A VERY rude word indeed. Possibly the rudest ever word. Though it may have been Doc' who gave the answer. And he's a very rude boy.

This must be being charged at the higher £12 clearance fee rate, but how they can justify that on the value of the package is ludicrous. Makes no sense.
The import VAT is 20% of the package value including the postage. Then there's usually an £8 collection fee on top of that added by the post office, but that does sometimes go up to £12.

If memory serves the fees have gone up www.parcelforce.com/parcelforce-worldwide-clearanceWe have two levels of clearance fee for import parcels. There is a charge of £13.50 for express parcels imported with GLS or through the EMS channel from other Posts networks and also for high value standard parcels (valued at over €1000). For all other import parcels, an £8 charge will apply.

Sadly one doesn't always have the option. With some items above a certain value HLJ for example will only use EMS shipping and there isn't an option to use Standard Air or Surface postage. Using EMS has bit me nastily before I will admit, once leading to me paying more for the fees than I did for the contents of the package.

Yep. £41 if the clearance is the £8 fee, or £45 if it's the £12 one.
Mind you, being Robot Kingdom you can of course look forward to armfuls of free Dark of the Moon trading cards with that. I think they send four packs for every $50 spent. Which would account for why I now have stack of 16 unopened packets from recent orders.
