Phil has been CUTA'd on his Netflix w2 Voyagers.
I know this because the tracking info with Parcelfarce tells me so.
Parcelfarce will allow you to pay customs online. Good, good.
To do so you need the Parcelfarce reference number. Which they will send me. By Post.
WHY NOT WIRE THE CUSTOMS CHARGE DIRECTLY TO THE TRACKING NUMBER AND LET ME PAY IT FROM THE TRACKING?

"VAT exemption for products worth less than £15 will come to an end" No more undervaluing to avoid a charge, 2021 is going to be fun.

That's a pity. So now foreign companies will have to apply VAT at the point of sale rather than us paying it when the product arrives.
What that does mean is making it fairer for us because it'll all be like Amazon.com - vat to pay, but not the stupid £8/£12 collection fees on top. At least we'll know up front what the final cost will be.

I think the article is misleading, it'll actually be CUTA and fees all the way on EVERYTHING

So does that mean that any eBay seller abroad needs to pay vat direct to the UK gov?

No, it means you'll get CUTA'd on everything.

Yes, it's saying everyone will have to do what amazon.com already do - apply vat when we buy something. Which means nothing to be collected when the item enters the UK, so no Royal Mail fee. It means we will always pay cuta, but it should be less without the collection fee and we'll always know exactly what we're paying as it'll be calculated at checkout.

I don't see every firm worldwide that sells on the net registering for UK VAT.
This is a story trying to put a spin on the increase in customs charges and passing the blame

The problem will come if foreign sellers don't have e-commerce systems that can apply a sales tax at checkout depending on region. That might risk them just not selling to the UK rather than upgrading their system.

I don't see every firm worldwide that sells on the net registering for UK VAT. Probably not, so if the article is accurate then we need to see how that's handled. As said, companies may just choose not to sell to the UK, or maybe it'll be that packages coming in get checked and if vat isn't paid then it's done as it is now, or maybe the package is held until the company does pay the vat.

There's been a lot of comment from small businesses and sellers online over the last fortnight over how they cannot afford to register for let alone collect VAT for UK shipments so now won't even try.

Yep. Whilst the whole scheme seems to make a degree of sense when selling into the EU block, the fact that companies will have to register directly with the UK, in a scheme that's bound to be as well-implemented as our track and trace system, and pay specific charges for one, tiny island means they'll most likely not bother. So yeah, we're going to suddenly find our options massively limited.

Blimey. How to ruin a surprise. £25 is a hefty one, so if that's £8 fee the thing you bought must have been about £85 including postage. MP Spinout?
