Thanks folks. I think Quake Wave is getting bought.
I actually prefer the smaller, blockier Predacons- probably because I'm such a fan of the original toys and "them but with better proportions and articulation" is exactly what I'm looking for. It'd be nice to have Predacons bigger than regular deluxe figures since the originals tower over most of their peers (singly and combined), but the MMC figures are just so insanely expensive! Tantrum/Bovis is 75 quid! If "Razorclaw" is bigger again to give Feral Rex decent proportions, I'd be looking at nearly 400 quid for the full set. Plus postage. Yikes.
I think I'll go for War Hawk and Aurora from Robotkingdom, and Quake Wave from Kapow. Giant and Hegemon can wait until after my next round of eBaying.

The Stunticons look similarly expensaive, 50 squids for each car, then who-knows-what for Motormaster! I think you've made some good choices there Nickos.
I need a Quake Wave. I'm gonna get one.
Masterpiece Shockwave, baby.

Ouch! I got Defender when he first came out. Er 50ish I think he was. Nice figure. Lots of metal on him. Complex but satisfying transformation, and three great modes. Assaulter looks very impressive, although I remain unconvinced about his 'carrier' mode. I'm passing on Assaulter. But if they do a Sandstorm I'll be kicking myself I didn't get him to complete the set.
I was always disapointed they didn't do a 'Warbot Destroyer'- aka Blitzwing.

Quake Wave ordered. Aurora and War Hawk aren't out yet. Aurora is delayed a week according to Robotkingdom, but I suppose such things happen easily in small outfits.

Oh right. The site just said "late February". I figured they'd update when it was available. Cool! I'll put an order in for him and Aurora on the 25th when the Auroras are due in.

I'm getting Quake Wave. I need Quake Wave in my life. Urgently. Can't believe I hesitated for so long. He's actually not silly money, when you consider how much MPs cost. Kapow have him in. The video reviews nailed it for me I think.
MP Shockwave. Eeeeeeeeeeee!!!!

I was actually put off it early on in the first video I watched, when I saw that Shockwave's trademark "backpack" was detachable on Quake Wave. Then I saw that this allowed the designers to thicken the legs to become the back of the gun AND the handle, while the detached backpack turns inside out (it's silver on the inside) to form the previously separate barrel for the gun mode. Very clever indeed.
I haven't been so excited for a TF arriving since... hmm... well, since Grind Rod actually. Possibly Henkei Stepper before that.

I know. I have a little climax every time I think of him! It looks a very clever transformation, giving him decent non-skinny legs. Can. Not. Wait.

After striking out at Maplins and Model Zone, I found that the watch repair place in Debenhams stock the type of battery Quake Wave takes. Report to follow on ease of installation.
-Nick
Update: FGGGNAAAAAAAAAH! COME OUT! COME OUT YOU BASTARD! I THOUGHT THE INSTRUCTIONS SAID YOU WENT IN THIS WAY! YOU'RE A DIFFERENT WAY ROUND IN DIFFERENT PICTURES! GEEEAAAAARGH!
Update update: Hokay. The battery is depicted one way round inside the forearm in the installation directions but the opposite way round when it's being inserted. It turns out that the battery for the gun arm light goes in with the ROUNDED side facing the GUN, and the FLAT side facing the ELBOW. I made the wrong call the first time I put it in. I had to take the forearm apart to try to push the battery back out, only to find that the compartment was sealed on the far side. Tweezers couldn't budge it so I had to use pliers to pry the battery out. Not fun. The eye light battery is shown the right way round in both installation images, with the rounded side towards the eye. Both light up brightly with a flip of their respective switches.
The best thing to do is to turn both lights on and push the battery against the contacts- if it flickers it's the right way round. Turn off and push the battery home. The eye-light is a tricky one to fit into position- I found it easiest to press the battery in against the edge of a table with the eye poking over the side.

The two are quite similar, actually- particularly in the shade of purple used in the main plastic. I don't know who's in a position to sue Fans Toys first- Hasbro or Cadburys.

Fans Toys are already doing a second run with swappable opaque hand/gun. Presumably the end of the barrel is still translucent otherwise the light-up function is a bit of a waste of time. Perhaps Fist Fight will come out later as an add-on, like the extra heads for the Devastators.
They could also release a frame that you can set MP10's detached head into.
