It's what justifies the existence of Dave.
(Just as Michael Palin justifies the existence of Yesterday.)

I've seen trailers for this show, but never really seen it. It looks to me like another Never Mind The Buzzcocks.
Anything with Stephen Fry as the presenter looks set to be a winner. Will have to Sky+ this if I remember.

It's an intelligent and witty show, and *gasp* educational. Worth a go. I don't subscribe to the cult of Stephen Fry but he's bearable in it.

I've seen trailers for this show, but never really seen it. It looks to me like another Never Mind The Buzzcocks. But without the nastiness. It's why I prefer it to Have I Got News for You, Mock the Week, etc.* Q.I. doesn't attack anyone, it's just fun... and Quite Interesting. *And why I prefer Just a Minute and I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue to The News Quiz and The Now Show. It's interesting that the programs in Martin's "anti" column are all stire and comedy/news programs.
Love QI. Got the three dvds that are available.

It's interesting that the programs in Martin's "anti" column are all stire and comedy/news programs. It's not really a coincidence - those are the ones that are likely to be sarcastic and cynical about stuff. I do enjoy HIGNFY for the Paul Merton silliness - and The News Quiz for the humorous 'cuttings'. Never watched much of Buzzcocks at all, because as well as it being the attacking sort of humour, I have no interest in the subject matter. (Whereas I do follow the news.) For me, good and worthwhile satire targets the audience or reader, and makes them feel uncomfortable about how they live their own lives. ('Gulliver's Travels' is the model for this.) What TV/radio calls satire these days tends not to challenge the audience at all, but allows them to feel good and morally superior to a third party minority target (usually politicians or celebrities). And it tends not to be very witty or insightful. But this is off-topic, so I'd better say something about Q.I. What's everyone's dream panel? I think mine would be Alan Davies, Sean Lock, Rob Brydon and Jack Dee. Martin

My favourite panelists are Davies, Clarkson, David Mitchell & Andy Hamilton. How well that would work as a panel I don't know. Rich Hall, John Sessions & Ross Noble in reserve. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_QI_episodes#Series_II see Brian Cox is also doing an episode this series.

I'll be watching the XL one so you get to see some of the extra stuff but you still miss out on the other 15 minutes you get going to watch it live. They record an hour for all Qi, HIGNFY etc but cut it down to 30/45 mins.

I'm reasonably certain QI recordings are two+ hours long Yup: qi.com/join-the-audience/on-the-day/I've been to a I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue Recording (2005, Oxford, Harry Hill) and there was lots cut from that that didn't make it on the air

Does 2hrs included retake of stuff? It must do & also include time for getting props ready. But do they keep the camera rolling during this time?

I expect there is a 4 minute gap when ever you get the camera pulling out & the logo going across the screen & they tell everyone to start clapping.

Panel shows run longer in recording because they shoot much more than they need and cut the stuff that drags on too much or doesn't get laughs.
Sitcoms run longer because of the need to reset cameras and pause between scenes. The don't tend to have extra cut material because they're scripted. Stuff that was shot on location is played in on monitors above the audience to get the laugh track. Actually, do Sitcoms even have studio audiences these days?
